The RCC has not made an official declaration of the shroud saying neither if it is really a holy relic or a false hoax created by an artist. They leave it up to the faithful to interpret.

So I ask you, is it really holy or is it the work of a humour artist?

Humour artist is someone who makes works of art in order to deliberaltey fool people or make satirical works to piss people off. Usually they are meant to be "inside jokes" and you have to really study the object of art to get the humour.

Hoax.

The dating method scientists have used on it proved that. But some Christians don't believe in those kinds of things, no matter the evidence, so some of them say it's really.

Many many tests have come back speaking to the authenticity of the Shroud. There has been recent tests for carbon-dating that place the shroud at a much later date then year 33AD, but as we've learned in high school, carbon dating is only considered accurate when used on items older the 14,000 years if I remember right.

No, probably not a humour artist, at least this would be unlikely from the cultural climate at the time.

Likely a hoax as:
1. Carbon-14 dating shows it to be much younger than it needs to be.
2. Face is more like style of painting and not correct for how a real face would project on cloth.
3. Dried blood turns black and the shroud has it red.

It is a holy relic.

It has been known to be so for centuries. Just as the actual manger in which Christ was born, is also known to be a holy relic. It is housed in a church in Rome and kept safe. The Catholic Church has never made a declaration concerning that either...but the faithful have always known it to be the manger of Jesus.

The same goes for the Shroud. It has been guarded, saved from fires, held in safety for many many years with the understanding that it is the burial cloth of Christ. The carbon testing was considered flawed because they took the samples from a patched piece of the Shroud. So, it was a younger piece of cloth. There are many other things that prove it's authenticity. It is "real blood" and A+ type. A+ is also the blood type of the Eucharist that turned to real flesh and of the blood that flows from weeping statues and pictures...always A+. Also, there was pollen on the Shroud that is consistent with the flowering plants at the time and location of Jesus' death. Those who have studied it say that the blood flow is consistent with a man who was crucified...and then laid down. The image is a negetive and could only be truly seen when photography became available....so how would someone "faking" it be able to have it be seen with something that wasn't even invented yet?

It's a puzzle.
If it was the work of an artist, then who was that artist who has confused modern science for hundreds of years???
The biggest puzzle is, Within the fibers of the shroud are minute seeds of a flower that only grows in Jerusalem; did that 'humorous artist' mix Jewish flower seeds into his paint????
We may need more than carbon dating to solve the mystery of the shroud.

Difficult to say, many have said when the pieces were taken to be carbon dated they were switched, the latest carbon dating shows it to be from that time.I am on the fence about this, however to think some one that long ago was smart enough and good enough to create such a hoax is a stretch.

If it is a hoax it is the greatest hoax in history as modern science is really still perplexed about how it was created.
It would make no difference if it was a hoax as the shroud is not conducive to the faith of the Christian.
However if it is genuine it will cause great confusion in a lot of minds today,Protestants would have to reconsider the whole idol thing for a start.

i personally am not too convinced that its real... but my problem is this.. lets assume that it is indeed, real meaning its indeed an image of a man somehow transfered onto that piece of cloth... there no definitive evidence that can prove that its jesus's image.. could've been anyone else's.. what makes ppl so sure that its jesus?? just because it looks like a man with long hair n beard? wow.. wasnt that a rarity at that time period... heck, nobody knows how the image can be transfered onto cloth like that.. skeptics come up with a bunch of theories, and those who believe say its the proof of the power of God.. either way, its all based on assumptions..

The Shroud of Turin may or may not be the burial Shroud of Jesus, the flawed and inaccurate Carbon 14 test say that it is not 2000 years old, however, those test were conducted by 'secular men,who were biased against it' and therefore I believe that the test's were deliberatly tainted and biased against it.
Be that as it may, wether the shroud is authentic or not makes no difference, The Shroud has no supernatural power, It may be an important historical artifact, but it has no power, nor would the 'spear of destiny' if it was found or in already existance and known, it also has no power, though an important historical artifact.

Anyway, wether or not it is a hoax or real makes no difference.
