How many years does a person have to get E-5 in the US Navy? I looked online and it says one thing and my husband is telling me another. I want experienced answers that are knowledgable not just an answer from someone who looks it up. I can do that myself.

Thanks!! :)

are you asking about High Year Tenure? the 2005 report has 14 years. If you do not make E6 by then, you are out.

E4 is ten.. if you haven't made E5 in ten years, you are out.

I do believe the 2007 numbers are close if not identical.

It depends on his Job NEC i know some that went from bootcamp (9weeks) to corpsman school(14weeks) another school like xray then advance xray and was E5 after that we called them pushbuttons dont know if they still do that but thats one example of the HM rate im sure some critical fields are the same. So in less than 4 yrs they are E5

First he would need to pass the yearly test and then they would have a need for that class. My husband is an E-5 and he has been trying for four years to make first class. It can be a very slow process.

It depends on his classification. There are minimum time in service requirements that must be met, but there also must be a current need for E-5 in his classification at his billet.

Ask a recruiter. They will know, without a doubt.
