Why are most of these people considered felons? Why are they not allowed to live 500-2500 ft from schools/daycare centers/recreational centers/libraries? Why are all of these people losing their constitutional rights? Why are they on the sex offender registry for 10 years or life, depending on the state? How are children being protected by the registry if these people are on it? Do you know what I have been attempting to do with my questions?

That registry is a joke. I believe it was started in Connecticut by Dr. Henry Lee, in the 80s. Recall he was the one involved in the OJ Simpson case, and Kennedy rape trial in Florida, and numerous high profile cases.

The idea was very good. In practice? It does not work as planned. The felons who register keep moving, so the address on the database is often outdated. Then there's the pile of convicts who do not register.

It only gives you an idea of how many have been convicted in your area. You, as of today, can't be sure if one of them is currently staying at your neighbor's...

There is a GREAT video put together by the "Code Adam" group and Disney, available in public libraries, with Winnie the Pooh and his friends teaching kids to say no to strangers and what to do in case of abuse. I had that thing checked out every week when mine were growing up.

The people you are asking about in your questions are all border line iffy cases and most probably don't need to be put on the sex offender registry. However, it is a good thing and the people on it should have rights taken from them and should not be allowed anywhere near schools or day cares. The people on there have raped and molested kids. That scars these kids for life. Sex offenders CAN NOT be rehabilitated. They will re-offend eventually. That is why we need the list, so we know who they are and where they are and we can keep our kids away from them. You are right, somebody that gets caught urinating in public is not a threat and does not need to be on there, I think we can all agree on that. The system goes too far sometimes and those kinds of people get caught up. However, by and large, it is a good tool and the people on the list deserve to be there and to have rights stripped from and a whole lot more that they won't get because of the ACLU and bleeding hearts like you. I can only hope and pray that a child isn't raped by somebody that should have been on the list, but isn't because he got off on some technicality or something.

Regardless of the validity of the list people want it, never mind they do not watch their kids or raise them. If they were watched or rasied then this list would not be required because they wouldn't be alone with a stranger who wants to have sex with them.

So if the childern were raised by their parents this list would not exist.

Also on that note if some one did something to one of my kids and I was witness to itthey'd never see the court room or the list.
