initially,let number of nurses and doctors be 3x and 5x.
now,number is 4x and 5x.
we know 2 new nurses joined,so,
4x-3x=2
x=2
so,now there are 4*2=8 nurses.

If adding two nurses increases the nurse ratio by 1 and the ratio is now 4:5,
2 x 4 = 8 nurses.

I'm afraid it's one of those ones you need to think about. I could be wrong though....
