I planned on a simple white gown for my beach wedding in Los Angeles early next year, but i have fallen in LOVE with a beautiful antique lace gown that is heavily beaded etc ... im wondering if you think that a simple gown is best for a beach wedding or should i just go for the dress of my dreams??? thankyou :o)

Hi, my daughter is getting married this Christmas in Jamaica. Her ceremony will be held on a gazebo that goes out over the water. She fell in love with a halter dress with a train. So, that's what she's wearing. When we researched "tropical weddings", alot of brides wore fancy dresses. My only suggestion would be for the groom to wear a suit. Some of the pictures we looked at the bride wore a beautiful dress and the groom was in a shirt & shorts. I personally thought that looked tacky.
I think your dress will be beautiful

Go with the dress of your dreams...you are only doing this once (I hope!). You will never forgive yourself if you didn't.

Speaking as a person who has lived in LA for the last 20 years, we've seen anything from simple tank dresses to ballroom gowns at beach weddings. The brides always looks beautiful, and never out of place.

Congratulations!

I asked this question too. A friend of my fiances told me that I couldn't wear an overly formal dress on the beach because it was such an imformal location. I had planned on a simple dress and then fell inlove with a princess/a-line cut dress with lace detailing. Its gorgeous. I'm going next weekend to make my final decision on it.
My advice to you, which i received from *most* people, because there are a few people who seem to be of the opinion that the beach is way too casual for these types of dresses, is to get the dress you REALLY want. If its inappropriate im sure you would know. Just make sure you aren't going to be too hot!

p.s. Least we don't have to wear high heels on the beach huh!

A beautiful antique lace gown that is heavily beaded is not suitable for a "simple" beach wedding - but if that is what you have your heart set on, try to "formalize the venue" with a wedding gazebo - maybe?

Go with your dream dress.
I too am getting married on the beach in the Caribbean and always envisioned something very simple. But when I went to try on dresses, I found The One that was way more detailed than what I ever imagine.
Go with the one that makes you feel like a BRIDE! :)

Definitely go for the dress of your dreams... you will always have those pictures and memories and you dont want to think back and say "Yeah, there was another dress I liked better"...

I would just suggest that if there is a train on the dress that you get a runner that is wide enough for you to walk on and will help to protect the bottom of the dress. Everyones dress gets a little dirty from walking around, but just to help protect it a little more. (If there even is a train) --

Good luck! Congrats!

Yes it is. You need a destination wedding gown. Check out alfredangelo.com, dessy.com, destinationweddinggowns.com. Something with lace, but not frilly with tons of beads. Way too heavy looking for a beach wedding. Every wedding gown company now makes destination wedding gowns or semi formal wedding gowns as it is the rage now, so you have your choice.

Go with the one that you love. It would be terrible to look back and wish that you had worn a different dress. On your wedding you should do everything possible to make it the most picture perfect day of your life. Have a great time!

You wear what you want...I just married my sister and her new hubby in Sept on the beach. She wore a beautiful white gown, not any beading. But it was windy has heck, nearly blew me over...Wear what you want, it will be beautiful, I'm sure of it...Congrats to you both...
