The very best thing to do is to find a breed club in your area. go to Golden Retirever Club of America.com and look for one near you. Find out where they are and go and speak to someone there. Also they can help you not only find a mentor but also help you understand all that is necessary to have your dog evaluate d to even become a stud in the first place. All the medical requirements and possibly show him or get him into some kind of training to make him be looked at as a possible stud.
This is a long and serious adventure and should not be taken lightly. So many poorly bred Golden's out there now and that is not something that you would want to be associated with. Not if your serious about your boy.

So many folks have wonderful dogs and believe that just because they have AKC papers on their dog that it should be bred.
Most breeders including myself will never breed a dog they have unless it minimally has a show title and in your and my own case, having Sporting group dogs, a working title to go along with it.
Not to be mean to you but just loving your dog in many cases is just not enough.
Perhaps speak to the breeder that you purchased your dog from.
Folks that I sell my pups to must get approval from me before being allowed to breed the dog.

Local kennel clubs - check out www.akc.org they have listings of the shows (put on by locla kennel clubs). Also they have a breeder referral list that might be helpful.
Also google the golden retrevers national club - the health foundation of the parent club usually has a list of heatlth tests recomended before breeding (I know hips& elbows I think eyes & thyroid)

AKC Male is not good enough you need to have records of his performance in shows. Best in show, champion pedigree etc
