A friend of mine had a gastric bypass a year and a half ago. She seems okay with liquids, but solid food really seems to give her significant abdominal distress especially if she drinks liquid AFTER eating solids. Also, she is CONSTANTLY belching even if she hasn't eaten for hours. Is this normal for so long after the bypass? Will it be this way forever?

That's the general idea. The surgery is supposed to make eating too much uncomfortable if not impossible.

That's why it is considered a last resort for the morbidly obese who have tried everything else and failed.

She will adjust but her life will never be the same. She has a long list of foods she can no longer eat. And only very small amounts at a time. The gas will pass. hahaha

Yes, it's normal. She doesn't have the large stomach that she once crammed all that candy and junk food into.
