This is because my eyesight is perfect when up close but goes blurry from a distance, when i am driving i cannot red road signs properly until i get right up to them, does this mean i am short sighted and will i have to wear glasses?? I am a bit gutted because i have always had perfect eye sight and i have been working on computers for the last 8 months is this why they have gone like this?

yes it probably is the computer, and if you work that long on the computer your company have a duty to pay for your eyetest, you will probably only have to wear your glasses whilst driving and watching tv so dont worry, and after a year or so why not try contact lenses if your vanity is effected

You are most probably short-sighted.

Overall, it's more likely to be nothing at all to do with the computer and your use of it, though there is the outside possibility of "ciliary spasm" where eyes doing too much close work too near or for too long "lock" into reading mode and appear to have gone short-sighted.
In such a case the correct procedure is to relax the eye muscles with eyedrops (and later with exercises) rather than to give a short-sighted Rx.
A competent eye exam will include consideration of this possibility, although it only applies to a minority of people.
I've had some individuals reading four or five lines further down the chart by the end of examination than they could read when thay came in. Without glasses.

If you are short-sighted, no you don't *have* to wear glasses.
Only if you are illegal driving, and then only for driving.
How much more you might *want* to wear them is purely up to you.

Sounds like you need glasses for driving and you'll probably find that watching TV is far more interesting with them on!
You are short sighted - this is likely to be a genetic thing and not linked to computer work.
If it is any consolation I started wearing glasses for the same reason about 17 years ago and still don't need to wear them all the time.

I had the exact same problem last year and now i only wear glasses for driving as I'm short sighted...and my eyes were great for years...i worked in Greece last summer and didn't wear sunglasses enough and i think i burned my eyes a bit coz when i came back my eyes had really deteriorated. Good luck with it!

Just the way the cookie crumbles... Sh*t happens!

Think you should really be asking this of your opthalmic optician or at the very least an optomerist.

Memorize the lines of the chart. It will take you less than 20 minutes, but you'll be able to drive till you're 90.
