Be sure to take a picture ID along with you. You will fill out an application and the card will be mailed to you in 10 days. They will be happy to give you a letter which states that you have applied for a replacement card and it will have your SS number on it. This letter can be used in place of the card until you get the replacement.

No, They will ask you some questions & then you have to sign a couple of papers then you will get a temporary Social Security card & then in about a week or 2 you will get the real one in the mail. I just got mine a couple of months ago so I went through the same thing you are going through. I hope this helps! Good Luck :)
