The condition that you describe is loss of vertical sweep or a more common term is vertical collapse. The vert amp chip will either be dead or if you are lucky it will just need resoldering , this is very common and only a routine job for a TV serviceman .
You could ask for an estimate for the repair first .

First of all, leave the TV off until you get it fixed as it will burn the tube. When you get a straight Horizontal line that means you have lost Vertical deflection. The two most common causes are either bad solder connections on the main board or the Vertical output circuit is dead. Either way it needs a tech, should only take an hour or less of labour and a small amount for parts.

Sanyo/Fisher (Sanyo owns Fisher) sets vertical deflection failure is usually caused by a bad capacitor, or vertical output IC, or the DC supply to the output IC has failed.

If the set is not too old, it is probably worth repair.

EDIT: Fisher has been marketed for years as the high end Sanyo.

Time for a new T.V> the repairs may cost half of what a new tv would cost.
I've never heard of a fisher brand tv.

Vertical deflection problem.Usually this sympton occur when the TV is used for a few years and caused by bad solder on PCB called dry joint.Sometimes it is easy to see with normal eye but you will probably need magnifying glass to find dry joint. If you have a soldering iron you can re-solder yourself. I have done on my old sony TV and still good.

hi
what you should do is get in contact with fisher or who you bought it from because doing 'DIY' on your television could just break it and damage it even more and you may have to buy a new

hope your telly works soon!!
