Hi Super Freak!
You need to understand that many of these people are extremely passionate about what they believe, because it is what they have been taught since they were children. If and when they find out that the information that they hold so dear is highly questionable or even proven to be false, they will stay hold on to their beliefs in many cases because if they agree with this new information it makes all the people that told them that liars, and sometimes hypocrites.
For example, if someone reads a great deal of history they may eventually come to the conclusion that some religious beliefs that they held dear for years are simply not true, it is very disappointing indeed, because perhaps they thought they would get eternal life by behaving a certain way, or believing in a certain thing, but with a higher education comes the knowledge that this long-held belief doesn't really make sense. Given that many people close to them will have been the ones who taught them these things, it is VERY hard to "let go", even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Unfortunately, some people are SO convinced that they are on "God's side" that they are willing to kill people, and this is a perversion, but it is also a reality of our world today. Religious and other superstitions need to go the way of the dinosaur - they need to become extinct.

Don't ya hate it when......?
someone posts a religious or other opinion based question, and when the poster doesn't agree with the answers, he edits the Q to argue his point. this isn't a message board! If you can't handle the truth, DONT ASK!
OK, try editing your Question and we'll see if it got changed? I think you can only add detail to your Question and not change it?

What I really hate is when a believer will ask a question directly to atheists, receive about 30 responses (29 of them from atheists, one from a believer), and that person chooses the believer for Best Answer. This happens on R&S EVERY day.
If this doesn't prove how weak the faith of a believer is -- in that they need CONSTANT validation for what they think -- then nothing will.

yeah im not a big fan of that unless it has a purpose sometimes edits are good i adds information but sometimes its jsut attackign someone idea, not a big fan of someone asking a genuine question and people attacking them for it either or answering it at all. I would love to ask genuine questions on here to get my knowledge up abotu certain religions but i feel like i would be attacked if i did

Why should it bother anyone? Is this going to affect your life because someone did this? I hope not. If you don't like it, don't read that question.
I edit. And I like it when people edit their question and give me feedback. I like to know their opinion. Isn't this kind of a silly thing to be worried about?

Yes, mudslinging is pointless, but when someone doesn't understand an answer, or when an answer raises more questions, I think editing your post is preferable to posting a whole new question in order to clarify/adress other questions raised by an answer.

It's okay when it's to clarify something, but when it's a continued rebutal of particular answers you're right, it's not really appropriate.
I can't really say anything though, I'm guilty of it on more than one occasion.

No, actually I don't. Sometimes a person posts something extra because the answer someone else gave helped him to realized they needed to clarify something. (why so quick to hate?)
