Why is warming a problem? Global cooling is far more serious of a threat to man and other life.
The Sun is the cause of all warming. The Sun warms a little, cools a little over time. These are natural cycles. Right now the Sun is warming a bit.
Nothing to worry about. Man is too insignificant to have any effect on the climate.

Global Warming is one of the Serious problems and is expected to reach at its critical situation by enviromentalists. You asked regarding the seriousness....here we go...
--North and South Poles ice are melting, with this the sea level is increasing day by day...guess what happens if all the polar ice melts...more than 70% of earth's body is of water, if all polar ice melts then there would be no sign of ground and every thing would be immersed under water. All land animals will extinct.
--Because of Global Temperature variation, tides are effected. You must be aware of hot and cold currents present in oceans?? You can search the adverse effects if hot currents increases. Obviously, nature is trying to maintain the environment balance...any small changes would bring disaster. Here is an example....earth's life can exist in between -30deg C to +45 or +50deg C(approx range). The difference is of 75 to 80deg. This might look large difference, but view from astronautical point. Pluto have less than (perhaps)-3000deg or 5000degC and Mercury is more than 5000deg C. Now the difference is of 10,000deg C.
Another easy example...human feel comfortable in temp range of 25 to 28deg C....have you ever been in 40deg C??? At 43deg C, humans can die coz of dehydration...only by rise in not even of 20deg??? It is said that in every 25yrs, earth's temp is increasing by 1degC. So by simple calculation humans donot have more than 500 or say 700 yrs!!
--Hope you know, cyclones, tornadoes, twisters are also created coz of atmospheric temperature difference...
--Just having general awareness and knowledge, any man can write a lot more on adverse effects of Global Warming.
""How serious are we?"" Governments and other International Official bodies have taken this a serious issue...just the point is that an ordinary man is not aware of what govt. is doing. Eg. -- earlier refrigerators used some kind of gas for deep refrigeration which created an ozone hole....Now Govt. have asked the companies to not use these gas.
--Govt are encouraging public to use Nature friendly gas for their vehicles like CNG.
--Govt. have also invested in projects which use Solar and Hydro Powers.
--Govt. have also introduced prosecution against the cutting of trees.
--Govt. is encouraging to use recycled products.
--Govt have also introduced PUC(Pollution Under Control) for vehicles.
This is getting very long.......point is that now it's time for every individual person to contribute towards nature and we cannot sit only to say, what Govt. is doing and others are doing!!!!!

Most people view climate change as a problem. A worldwide poll last year found that 90% of the population view climate change as a 'serious threat' (the figure this year is 92%) http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/btenvironmentra/187.php?nid=&id=&pnt=187
That's not to say that these 90% are doing anything about it, but at least they acknowledge the problem. Similarly, there is overhwleming agreement that climate change is a serious problem amongst governments, scientists, business leaders etc. However, the level of action being taken falls far short of the level of concern.
I suspect the primary reason for this is that people don't want to be inconvenienced themselves and would rather someone else deal with the problem. Progress is being made, more and more companies are 'going green', Yahoo themselves recently announced that they are going carbon neutral, a great many other companies have done the same.
Changing attitudes always takes time, look at how long it took to change people's attitudes towards women in the workplace or to smoking.

Once again Mr. Jello has it right. It's climate change, and there's nothing that man can do about it. I suggest that people read history and science books and learn about what has happened in the past. We could headed for long term heating in North America, or we could end up with another ice age. Nobody knows for certain.

Hardly.
Supreme court's full majesty and power were called upon to control Delhi pollution by requiring autorikshaws to switch to CNG. At this rate not much serious headway can be realistically expected from India. It is each one for himself.
I have noticed that in Europe, 2 - seater minicars are popular. It has always amazed me why even reputed carmakers like the TATAs and Maruti do not place emphasise minicar, not just small car. Luxuriating on huge cars for personal transportation need to be but are not discouraged through very heavy taxing and regulation.

Judging by the price of coastal real estate I would say that most people do not take it very serious, and that's a shame because I would love to sneak in and get some of that property at a good price.

Let us avoid using air conditioners in tropical countries..instead we can switch to cotton clothes...
Let us avoid ground water depleting brands such as pepsi and coke... instead drink fresh juices.
Let us avoid plastic carry bags..instead we can take a cloth bag when we go shopping..
Let us stop upgrading every time to new electronic gadgets..that will control e-waste
Let us change, then others will follow.
If i was able to live in Chennai for 2 years without a fan, it was only because of me training my body to adapt..
sacrifice luxury..it hurts at the beginning... but worth a lot than simply preaching!

well im quite serious about global warming because i dont want to die!!! i live in the philippines and if the ocean levels rise again and again and again im going to drown!!! its also because im concerned of other poor people in the philippines because if it snows before the philippines will sink then the poor people will freeze to death because they dont have proper homes or clothing. it would be very sad to see dead frozen people in their carton homes while your in your car or walking on the side walk... and the poor adults and children that sell and beg on the street wont be able to do that anymore because of the freezing temperature... and i found a pic of a seal that died of heat in antartica and a bear swimming and trying to look for stable ice to go on. it would be sad... if you watched the documentary of algore that is what would REALLY happen if we dont stop global warming.

Nonchalant. That is the simple word to describe people's attitude.
Still there is widespread cutting down of trees and destruction of nature.
Time alone can help out the country.
