Well, to a certain extent it depends on your life style. What you don't want is a tiny dog that will be easily hurt by two active young boys - or be cuddled to death. You need a dog large enough to be able to handle that activity and attention. Someone mentioned a Westie which is a great breed. Corgis are a nice size or any of the many terriers out here. Rat Terriers are nice dogs and not quite as rambunctious as the Jack Russells but either is a great family pet. If you have a large yard, Labs and Goldens are wonderful as well as Australian Shepherds (very active dogs). You might also consider a happy mid sized mutt. Sometimes, they make the best pets of all. Have you considered a rescue? A dog around a year or even a few years old might be a great option.

Hiya without a doubt Labradors, I have had two, my kids, rolled on the floor with them, pulled ears and tails, obviously we stopped it, but all dog did was shut its eyes and lay there, thought it was being made a fuss of, they adore children and are very loyal to owners, loving, and also very clever dogs, they do shed a lot of hair, they are a greedy dog, but that's all the faults they have, I would 100 per cent stand by what i have just said, oh and they come with free pack of andrex loo roll pmsl. seriously, good luck and enjoy your puppy, best wishes Janxx

labs are great with kids. Golden retrievers are good too. Pound pups are awesome and very loyal usually, take him to a shelter and find a cute mutt he likes. I had a border collie as a kid, she was awesome but not a guard dog. Any dog will guard your house if loyal to you and you treat it right, they will protect those they love just as any human would.

Are you obsessed with aggressive dogs? Any dog can be taught to be aggressive, but if you get a breed specifically for aggression you're asking for trouble, especially with a child.

Golden Retrievers are definately the best dogs for children, we had one when my children were young and she was great with them. I still have her and the children have left home, she's 14 now and has been a good loyal friend as well.

Your cousin DOES NOT need a dog.. he's looking for trouble!! A BIG dog.. HIGH aggression.. GUARD dog? Get him a chihuahua, or he's going to have an out of control dog. These are warning signs of coming trouble!!!

7 years olds are not appropriate owners for dogs with high levels of aggression- he could try a lab or golden retriever, or a pug or springer spaniel.
