I am not stupid, however i have these ridiculous thoughts every evening that I have colon cancer, the doctor says its IBS but im convinced its more than that. I feel very disrespectful to the people that really do have this illness, but i cant seem to shake the worries off that i have this condition? im 19, am i too young? Would i really know if i had it? My Grandad died of pancreatic cancer 4 months ago and it was clearly obvious he had this. Family and friends say i have hypochondria as i worry over illness alot, i keep getting twitching feelings like clotted blood in my legs, and i get it about 50 times per day. now im convinced i have MS, i read books about illnesses all the time and these make me worse but i have to read to check i havent got symptoms. I feel like a mental person, even though i am 'normally' quite inteligent!? These thoughts started 16 weeks ago since giving birth, anybody else get this and would i truly know if i had some from of bowel cancer, blood clot or MS?

Yes, you are far too young for colon cancer. I have had IBS for several years and I know that sometimes the symptoms are so strong and painful that you think it's something more serious, but mostly likely it isn't. The only way to know for sure is performing a colonoscopy, which is a pretty invasive examination, but I would suggest you do it for your own peace of mind. Other alternative colon-related problems could be Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn Disease, but such an examination would detect them, too. I have sent you a message with the web site of our laboratory, you will find my personal email address there. Feel free to contact me there and we can have a better chat.

good luck
Gloria

I am not going to say you are a hypochondriac, although it might be closer then you realize. You are too young to and just having a baby. Women do not have a Colon (men do). There are a number of reasons your body feelings are this way, not counting a new baby. The doctor and the lab technician do a pretty good job when examination prior to child birth.
What you should be concerned about is Breast Cancer or Ovary Cancer, especially if someone in your immediate family has a history.
Just plan to get your normal yearly PAP and Mammograms completed regularly. Use your birth month as a helpful reminder and you should be alright.
If these feelings persist, I recommend you see a psychologist to get to the reason for these unexplained behavior issues before it runs your life.

If these feelings started just after you gave birth, that makes it sound like you may have a case of post-partum depression, and may need some counseling, vitamins, or a prescription to get you through it. If you are still convinced that you might have a problem you should see another doctor, but you say you seem to only worry about "symptoms", etc., that you know about, like what you read in a medical book. Its good to read medical books, as long as you realize that if you really want a diagnosis you should go to an actual physician, and not rely on the limited information you will get from a book. Real doctor's don't just read one book - they read many, and know that the odds of you having all those diseases are very unlikely, especially at your age.

Have your doctor run a colonscopy to check for colon cancer. You are young but that is how you can check for sure. It does sound like you are a little mental about illness. go to the doctor and get a complete physical, all the test then when it all comes back normal forget about it.
