The obligation to tithe (i.e., to give 10 percent of one’s gross income) was binding only on the Jews. Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic law (Matt. 5:17), so even Jews are no longer bound by it. But this doesn’t mean we’re not obligated to support the Church-we are-but there is no longer a specific percentage required.
Scripture provides insight on how Christians should give:
On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper. (1 Cor. 16:2)
The point is this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:6-7)
There is no mandatory requirement to give a specific amount of money or percentage of our income. We should each decide for ourselves how much to give and then do so in the true spirit of giving a gift.

As some of the above mentioned tithing is 10%. But consider this, if every church memeber did his or her part, and every church did its part, there would be no hunger, there would be no orphens on the streets. Our pastor recieves no funds from the church, In fact he tithes on two incomes. The retirment form the air force, and his income as a math teacher. the tiths pay for the church, the insurance, the utilities, and then we try to provide food and such for those in need. 10 % back to God for the 100% that he gave is nothing. the goverment takes on average 15 -35 % just to run itself.

when tithing is done, it should be done out of your love for God. Jesus never explicitly commanded any new testament christians to tithe (and here come the people who will quote a few verses that say the opposite), but it says in malachi 3:10 that you'll be blessed beyond measure if you tithe. but it has to be done out of love if you want to recieve those many blessings. remember what st paul wrote.
ps- if you ever read the didache, it says that if there is no church or clergyman to pay tithe to, we should give our ''first fuits'' to the poor. i really think the didache should be canonized. the problem is that it's a composite work, and noone knows who the authors were or exactly when it was written. chances are that it was written in fragments from about 50 AD to about 125 AD. it gives specific directions on baptizm, the Eucharist, etc. if it were added to the bible, we'd probably have more unity in the church, but good luck pushing something like that through.
just in case you're interested...

Tithing is for Jews as Sentinel has pointed out to you. Christians are bound by the new covenant which does not require us to tithe.
Tithing was never practiced by the the early Christians after the resurrection. They shared things in common. See Acts 2,42-46.

Ephesians 2:15 "By means of his flesh he abolished the enmity, the Law of commandments consisting in decrees, that he might create the two peoples in union with himself into one new man and make peace"
the tithing was a law that was given in the book of Leviticus and that laws were removed after Jesus´s death Nisan 14 Year 33 C.E.
if you decide to give 10% or 50% it is up to you but telling the lie that you are stealing to God and quoting Malachi 3:10 it is a simple lie and all liar belongs to Satan (John 8:44).

Only false pastors demand tithes, as tithing is an old covenant requirement; not a new covenant requirement.
It is the ploy wolves in sheep's clothing use.

God owns everything. Tithing is something that we have to do. We should return 10% of our income to the church Like it says in the book of Malachi in the Bible. If not, we are robbing God and not giving back what is his.

think of it like this: the money u have is from God. He allows u to have it. All He ask is for 10% of the gross that u make.....I asked my preacher if it said in the bible that we were to give 10% and he said that it talked about 10 score and said that is what he thought to be our 10%. I mean of all the money God allows us to have He only ask very little as of money.
