Thyroid, you should have it checked. Stress can also cause hair loss as well as sickness, hormones, other medicines like birth control etc, poor diet, . But seriously have your Thyroid checked. That is what happened to me. I've been on meds. for 3 yrs' now and my hair doesn't fall out any more Thank GOD!!!
More serious causes could be:
Type 1 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes
Lupus
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland)
Eating disorders
Gout
Depression
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Fever
Influenza (flu)

Falling out (from the route) or Breaking off (at the ends)? If it is falling out, it is probably due to nutrition. You may be lacking something. If it is breaking off, it could have to do with chemicals, lack of moisture, too much heat etc... I would suggest weeing your doctor if it is falling out. He/ she could probably run test to see if you are deficient and ask you the proper questions to rule out other possibilities...
