God inspires us in both ways, but since we have free will, its up to us to deal the negative and positive things that comes along the way.

The inspiration is offered in equal proportions.
You can choose the positive or the negative.
The positive tends to reinforce at a higher pace....but the scenic route is available.

Positive reinforcement, particularly in light of Jesus' teachings. We have the opportunity to live in Heaven in immortal bodies when we die, we can receive blessings on earth, we can receive a feeling of security in knowing God, Jesus even tells us we can do the same things He did if we have faith. To me, there's no reason not to believe in God and accept Christ, because it's a win/win situation.

Both, but negative seems to work better for us. Can you think of any valuable life-lesson that you learned without considerable pain?

I'm not at all convinced that there is "god" but it's the apparent indifference to humanity by god that lacks the inspiration.
