Sometimes it comes from straining your eyes so much, like watching a lot of television or playing a lot of games on a game console/computer. Maybe, it also means that the body is yearning for sleep, thus the tired eyelids effect. :)

Eyes are considered windows of your body and soul.
I think your eyes get sore when there are too much exposure of light.
Listen to your body. You need to relax your body parts.
Don't over-expose your eyes to radiation of your computer.
