I've read the Bible numerous times however, I seem to have missed the passage where Jesus said, "If you clasp your hands togethor and get a busy signal, pray through to my mother Mary."
Why do you pray to Mary?
I'm certainly NOT mocking or, downplaying this important and beloved woman, I just don't understand the point of it since Jesus never spoke about it or required us to do so...

Ok..... I guess I'd just rather pray to Jesus himself than have Mary intercede on my behalf, seems pointless to me.

Jesus is our intercessor, it is not biblical to ask any one in the heavens to pray for us. Jesus became our mediator so that we could come before the throne of God personally. No other middle man needed. Truth be told there is not enough space here to hold the amount of scripture that make it clear we are to pray through Jesus and in his name only.

1 Timothy 2:4-6 (New King James Version)

4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

Hebrews 4:15-16 (New King James Version)

15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 7:25 (New King James Version)

25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

I find that many of the catholics give examples of human reasoning to validate praying through Mary, I have given scripture from which all truth comes, to validate praying only through Jesus. Praying through Mary has no biblical basis. It is simply tradition. Unless someone can show me a scripture that would validate this tradition.

Catholics do not pray to Mary instead of Jesus. Catholics pray to Mary AND Jesus, though the prayers are VERY different.

Catholics pray to Mary to ask her to pray for us. Catholics pray to Jesus to ask Him to save us.

See the difference?

This question is asked nearly every day

Catholics ask Mary to pray to Jesus for us. She is interceding, kind of in the way a pastor might pray for you or me. Even in the Rosary we ask Mary to "Pray for us sinners." And we think she s quite good at that.

remember being a kid?
you had to ask your dad (or other primary care giver) for something really big and (at the time) really important.
you got your mom and sometimes even siblings or other people your dad respected on your side - same concept.

in Luke we are told that Mary''s soul too a sword shall pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. I don't think God was lying. He chose Mary for a reason - He chose to give His Son life through Her for a reason. He chose to allow Him to be nursed, swaddled, taught, discliplined - raised by Her. He trusted Her with His only Son and our Saviour.... yeah I think He did His research and will trust His opinion of Him :)

Mary worship or praying through Mary , ,or indeed anything worship related to Mary is from pagan sources and is not Christian.

Those that follow such a thing prove without any doubt that they are not following what the Bible truly teaches and are not serving the true God.

My answer is the same as the other Catholics. In fact, I think you already know how we are going to answer your question because this has been asked a zillion times.

If what you say were true I would be the first to leave the Catholic Church. Why do you say these things about my faith? Oh, I know what you will say, “we don't want you to go to hell; we love you.” That is the lamest excuse I have heard for bashing Catholics. Do you really expect me to fall for that line? Catholics do not bash other religions because we know we belong to the true Church. Bashing Catholicism shows Fundamentalists are insecure people. If you are so sure about your beliefs why bash Catholicism? You have already told us a million times what you do not like about our faith. And you have also warned us a million times we will go to hell with those beliefs. So, what really is your reason for attacking our faith again and again? I can only think of one reason: to validate your own faith; therefore, you are insecure and unsure of your faith.

To my fundamentalist brothers & sisters: Jesus said, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. – Matthew 7, 1-2 (KJV)

Fundamentalists, Evangelicals and Pentecostals talk as if no case can be made for the Catholic Church. How sure are you that you are right and we are wrong?

If you are really in search of the truth you should not turn your back from this challenge.

I agree with ΚαταЋσЮs,
Mary and the saints are revered as role models of how to live our lives. We ask for their guidance and to share their understanding.

People come together and pray with one another in churches all throughout the world. The power in companionship in prayer strengthens our resolve. Is it really so wrong to ask the dead as well as the living to pray along side us?

If you pay closer attention, you'll notice they ask Mary to pray for them, just as you might (or might not) ask someone to pray for you.

Asking someone to pray for you is an intercession, and Catholics choose to revere Mary and the other saints, as they were role models and wonderful examples of how people live their life when they are truly devoted to serving God. Part of this acknowledgment is remembering them in our prayers, and asking them to pray with and for us.

Mary is revered as the first of the Christian saints, as she voluntarily submitted to God's will and carried the divinely created man we know as Jesus. That is why Catholics adore Mary so much.

God bless!

"If you clasp your hands togethor and get a busy signal, pray through to my mother Mary."
hmmmmmm.... you wouldn't be making fun of them, would you ? Damn, I learn something new every day... had no idea that is how they pray... interesting...

"What is your religion my son?" inquired the Archbishop of Rheims.
"Pardon, monseigneur," replied Rochebriant; "I am ashamed of it."
"Then why do you not become an atheist?"
"Impossible! I should be ashamed of atheism."
"In that case, monsieur, you should join the Protestants."

Tell me, did he ever tell you to ask your family and friends to pray for you?

Did he ever tell you to call your mother, while holding a picture of her, pour your heart out to her and ask her to pray for you?

Jesus said to the Thief, "Today you will be with me in Paradise."

Paradise is a place for the living, not the dead. Those who are in Paradise are therefore alive, and capable of praying to God.

Why should Catholics then favor the visibly living over the triumphant living...?
