They already have guns, clubs, teargas, armour, so why not?

Interesting that only three of you dislike the idea of the police stabbing people.

Do they have room? They got their tazer, the gun, the bullets, the maze, the radio.... All hanging from one belt. I get a kick out of those with pork bellies that, like little kids, keep pulling their sliding pants up...

Just think, they need all that to defend themselves while all *we* need is a thin, cell phone with a video camera in our backpocket!

I don't know a single one that does not.

EDITED LATER:

As many have already stated here, most police carry firearms. In every case I have ever read, officers who have used their knives against another person were in situations where things have gone VERY wrong.

I suppose you would have different views if yours was the life that was saved by a cop who cut your seatbelt to get your unconscious butt out of a burning vehicle.

Most officer's carry some sort of knife. A buddy of mine has a K-Bar on his tac gear.

I carry a multi-tool and a pocket knife. Why stab someone if you can just shoot them though? The knives (mine anyway) are for things besides defense.

Most of us do, but they aren't issued by the police dept.
I carry a multitool type folding knife. It can come in handy if I need to cut a seat belt or remove a set of licence plates.

I carry one for the primary purpose of cutting a seat belt in an emergency.

Everyone should carry a knife. They're about the most handy and versatile tools in existence.

Well a knife is actually a very useful tool in many instances so I think many already carry a knife.

I don't know of a cop that does not carry a pocket knife. Darn useful tool. I just love my Kershaw. . .

They already do. My father, who is a retired NYPD officer, always carried a knife, and in one case, needed it to cut the seat belt of a burning car in order to extract the driver.

Yes, and we do. Its not for defense. Cutting your seatbelt off of you in a wreck is what WE are thinking about.
