Scabies is treated using one of several anti-parasitic drugs, in a lotion that's applied to the whole body below the neck (and to the head in children under two). The lotion must be kept on for 24 hours. Anti-itching medication may be used too.
You should avoid physical contact with someone who has scabies until they've been treated to prevent infection. If you've been in physical contact with someone with scabies, you should be treated too.
.
Soft furnishings clothes and bedding need a HOT wash to prevent re- infection.
Good Luck
xx
p.s To get a proper diagnosis she should she a doc as a skin scraping (not painful) can confirm diagnosis. Treatment however can be bought over the counter from a pharmacist.

Your friend should see a doctor so she can get the proper diagnosis. Insurance is not interested in whether she has scabies or not since the insurance pays for part of the fee for an office visit. The doctor can recommend what product your friend should use to get rid of whatever it is she has.

Scabies is a little burrowing critter which can be passed on pretty easily by close contact.
You need an insecticide to kill it - ask your local pharmacist for something containing gamma benzene hexachloride ("Lindane" in the UK)
The itching may continue for a while even after the bugs are dead.

Get Lindane lotion from your docter after they confirm your condition to be scabies. Apply the lotion to all body surfaces, but be careful not to get it in your eyes. Do this at bedtime. Let the lotion dry and leave on overnight. The next morning, wash all your bed linens and dirty cloths at once. Take a shower. Repeat in 3 days if necessary.

Other than Rx I have heard that apple cider vinegar is good for insect bites and such. You will need to rub it on and sleep in it but it will still be in her bedding. She will need to bleach everything. Also could try some of the OTC lice treatment. Nix and Nix bedding spray may help. Good luck!
