Hi im a 22 year old filipina lady and a new muslim convert.I did my Shahaddah 1 month ago.I have benn reading and doing my research about Islam for about 7 years now but now Ive grown to embrace and love Islam...

I was born and raised as a christian and my dad is a strict catholic man and my mom is a born again christian. But my parents were not really religious.
I have grown into a baptist community where i serve and attend,i had questions about my faith and now really want to dedicate my life to islam and serve allah.

Im having difficulty adjusting to the customs of islam.Me being filipina
(where it is dominantly christians and im never expose to islam, they look at muslims as bad people)
and not knowing how to speak, understand, write arabic (when it comes to prayer)
and of course the clothing for women...

Can u please give me advise or resource on where i could learn more (easily) about islam...

I converted because I have trouble accepting the fact that Jesus is the son of God or Him being God.
And I can relate and grew interest on the Islamic beliefs...

Can we please just respect each other religions?
I do not know u personally or whats is inside your heart and neither do u know mines...
I have baptist & catholics in my family,we all live in harmony.
I guess its just hard for some people to accept some peoples differences...

I have been doing my references about islam for about 7 years,YES.About the beliefs, faith, and some customs.I have to mentally, emotionally prepare myself for this.Im not a kid who will just jump into something that just simply caught my attention.

My dear,
Its going to take a lot more than 7 years to do research, accept, and learn the whole language like reading, writing, understanding, and speaking arabic dont u think?
Being said that i was never close to being exposed to Islam.
Lets be realistic...

Congratulations sister on your conversion..WElcome to islam(although, i'm pretty sure having researched islam for mashaAllah seven years, you are most likely to be a lot more knowledgeable about it than i,a born muslim, am)...
I don't know how to advise you on the lack of muslims around issue..since you do hang around over here, you can add some muslims as contacts(you can add me too,if you're interested), go through their Q&A, etc..we all love the converts, and don't ever worry about being treated as an outsider..also, the Ramadan section in the "Holidays'' category consists mostly of muslims, so you can browse through there too..
And if you feel you're being treated unfairly because of your religion, you can always "take revenge", and prove them wrong, by being the best around(of course, it may never be as easy sa it sounds, but there's no harm in trying,right?)..

For your prayers, you can read from the Qur'an and pray, till you learn some of the smaller Surahs by heart..for the other prayers, it is ok if you pray in your native tongue..If you're unable to read the Qur'an in arabic, i'm sure there must be some or the other beginner arabic classes in your community..if not, you can search for some good websites around here, or again ask around in the, say, Travel>Egypt section..

Dressing..since you're still new, it doesn't really matter what kind of dress you wear, as long as it fulfils the following charecteristics: it must cover your whole body, except the face and hands, be modest, i.e loose and not very attention gathering(such as some t-shirts with certain kinds of slogans on them.)

insha Allah, with God's grace, you'll be able to overcome all these obstacles..and don't worry about making it: i once met a Filipina lady, who herself was a muslim convert, and helped to convert 7 other people, and now works to teach her fellow muslims about islam..

First of all, praise to Allah for opening your heart to embrace Islam. Islam is the true and complete religion no doubt about it since it was convey to our prophets many thousand years ago. The holy Quran has laid foudations for the ummah (followers) to follow the good ethic of human kind which comes from Allah thru his messenger the Prophets.

Try to mix with the muslim community around your area and find a female religious teacher and learn about islam.

You don't have to write arabic to learn arabic. You can get the Ustazah (female religious teacher) to teach you the basic things to read the Quran or listen to Quran recital. Perhaps you can log on to http/:www.quranexplorer.com/Quran/Default.aspx. Of couse Islam only taught the good conduct just like clothing....wear or covered your body in a decent way. No bare backs, expose your armpit etc. learn bit by bit and pick up pieces by pieces and I believe you'll be a true muslim.

assalamu `alaykum
Congratulations! An excellent source for informational resources is http://www.al-islam.org . There are some groups for Muslim women at http://groups.yahoo.com . There is a most excellent mosque in Chicago called the IEC Hussainy. It is located on Goodrich Avenue off of highway 64 (North Ave). The phone number there is right on the top of the home page. The website is http://www.iechusaini.org . The imam there is very learned and very respectful; and his wife is brilliantly intelligent, learned, and kind. Do you need anything in particular?

Mabrook... congrats. The best thing that one can attain in this world is the true guidance and to know his or her creator God Almighty. Lucky is to have the pleasure to call and worship the true Lord of Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad and all the Prophets of God who came with one Universal message. Which was to submit oneself to the will of Almighty God-which is Islam.

May Allah bless you and protect you. Steadfastness is the main thing in Islam. It may be that our faith is strong oneday and weak on the other day. So do things step by step so as we go upper and upper towards God. Practice what is obligatory and avoid prohibitions. Do good deeds as much as you can and take things in the proper sense and take things easy. Always pray as much as you act, for the help and support comes from Allah. Sincerety is the core of all actions. Your faith and your religion is between you and your Lord. So make religion to Him alone. He is first the Most Merciful and the forgiving and then also is He, severe in Punishment. So hope and fear, between the two is faith.
May Allah help all of us and keep us steadfast till we meet Him. The day we breath our last and also the day we carry nothing from this world except our deeds according to true beliefs.

You've been studying Islam for 7 years and just now you are having problems with the language, prayer, and clothing?

*raises eyebrow"

Maybe you should have studied a little harder and asked yourself if it's something you were ready for? You had to know these things were going to be a problem. They didn't suddenly spring up out of no where.

Congratulation and you are welcome to the Global brotherhood of Islam.
I think the YA is not a good place to get answers of the questions raised by you. Difficulties faced by people are different based on the location. So, its always better to contact muslim community by nearby place.

To those christians who are incapable to digest the fact that people can really revert to Islam purely based on wisdom, I would say that do you research again free from biase, you also would see the light, beyond smoke screen created by media.

LOL! Your Philippines-citizen spouse has to prove she earns enough to support you before you can even get a visa to enter Phil. All things considered, plan on arranging for your wife to immigrate to Iran. Philippines is grossly overpopulated, jobs are scarce, and they have objections (and serious restrictions) to importing more citizens. Half the population has to leave to have any hope of a job. If you are a wealthy investor with entrepreneurial experience who can hire lots & lots of filipinos, you might be acceptable.

Paragraph 2 baffles the hell out of me, we just have to wait another seven years before you change to some other form of worship I suppose.
And what exactly have you been studing for the last seven years? You could have qualified as a doctor and served humanity in that time, but then again, you havent learnt anything have you?
