I come from a strongly patriotic family. I have had family that have fought in every american war since WW1. I have a female cousin who just went to afganistan and I started to think. I really dont like women in the military. I understand in times of war maybe as nurses or other jobs away from action, but I dont think women should be on the front lines or honestly in harms way at all. You may think what Im saying is sexest, but my reasoning has nothing to do with 1950s logic "womens place is in the kitchen". No my opinion comes more from one word Death. The truth is I am more comfertble if one of my male cousins die in war more than my female cousin. I think that most people think this, but am not sure. I meen if see an image of a fallen male soldier I feel proud of his sacrifise for my safety, but if I see a image of a dead women it make me angry. What do you think?

I"ve seen women medics serving in extraction or evacuation helicopters... and that duty can be rather hazardous.

My opinions are not politically correct as far as the military goes. The tradition of the military has been the men to fight the wars while the women stay home... protected from harm. It has to do with chivalry. But women did the work of men during WWI while the men were away fighting.

Then there's the tendency for women to lack the upper body strength of a man. Because women wanted to join the military, they were allowed to meet lower standards of physical ability than men. The logic is that, since they're inherently weaker than men, they be relegated to non-combat roles.

While some (perhaps most) women cannot carry a 160-pound guy off the battle field...or through an obstacle course, there are a lot of guys that can't do it either. But the guys are allowed to try... and to fail. It seems rather ludicrous to deny somebody the right to try and to fali... or succeed... just because of the plumbing. There are women smoke-jumpers. They go through the same training, carry the same packs... the same weight as the guys... and a few make the grade... and some of the excel.

I know a woman who swam in a swim meet for the Navy. She took a first, two seconds and a third... and she was the only woman swimming. I know a woman 5' tall who dropped an attacker who was about a foot taller than she was. Now, granted, these might be isolated and specialized instances, but the point is, that women can do some things that men don't believe them capable of doing. Certainly the men the swimmer beat would not dispute that. And I'll bet the would-be attacker would probably agree.

You say you can accept a guy dying easier than you can a girl dying. 'll tell you... I've written letters home to families... and it makes absolutely no difference... a life is a life... regardless of the plumbing... and it's terrible to lose one.

If a woman loves her country enough to put her life on the line for it, why should that right at least to try be denied... just because of the plumbing?

I completly agree with your reasoning that I would never want to see a female on the front lines just because I'm kind of over protective of females in general. BUT I don't see why us guys are a heck of a lot different in their minds.

When it all comes down to it I personally dont want to see women on the front lines, however personal opinions aside and true fair beliefs projected, I think any female should be able to sign up for the exact same positions males can and if they understand and accept the risk they should be able to.

It doesnt make sense, women shouldnt be on the front lines because they could get hurt and that would make me angry and upset. Ya. Now I'm sure you know what every parent feels like sending their kid off with a drivers license for the first time. Its the same issue, protectivness. But we cant shelter "our" women or children (please dont take that elitestly/sexistly) forever. It's their life and they have every right to live it too.

Some of the most patriotic people I know are women. Should they be denied the right to fight for their country? Die for their country? Why?

The only thing about the way the military operates with womens qualifications is the physical requirements. If women want equal oppertunity in the military, then they should have equal standards to stay in / get in the military. You can't complain about not being given equal statis, and then getting in and only having to do x pushups less then a male based on womens averages ec etc. But I spose while similiar that is slightly off topic.

Summery: As much as it angeries and saddens this over protective guy too, women should have the equal right to choose to fight for their country and if need be die for it as well.

Women have at least one thing in common with men; they die too.

It should sadden us whenever women or men die as a result of crime, automobile accidents, fires or diseases. However our sadness does not alter the fact that we are all mortal and all of us will pass from this earth at some point.

I think women have shown over the years that they can serve very well in military services. Beginning with nurses as far back as the Civil War (in the U.S.) women have come under fire and some have died.

At this point we are not likely to use women as infantry fighters, partly because many of the physical demands are hard for many men and extremely hard for women. The presence of women in a front-line combat unit could result in men taking unnecessary risks to protect their female squad-mates. There are also other problems with putting men and women in field conditions together.

However, I have no objection to using women in combat roles they have proven they can do well. Fighter pilots, naval personnel, artillery, combat support, and various other roles can be performed as well by women--in many cases better.

Women died in the 9-11 attacks. Women die when the Taliban attacks Afghan civilians. Women terrorists have even blown themselves up in the name of Islamic insurgency.

It is not a pretty thing, and I guess it should make us all angry. But I think dead men might just affect us that way, too, if we are fair about it.

If something is worth fighting for it is probably worth dying for. If a woman fights well I'd be glad to see her in combat.

All Soldiers are volunteers in the U.S. Army and women know they are at risk when they raise their right hands...just like their male counterparts.

Women die in Iraq and Afghanistan. go to militarytimes.com to see just who has died in the war in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

I work with female Soldiers everyday, and they are in the Army for the same reasons and swore the same oath as I did. I have a great deal of respect for women, and believe that all Americans are equal - as people. They have as much right to serve and sacrifice for the greater good as a man does.

Women die. Everyday, everywhere...just like men. Grow up and stop objectifying women and respect the sacrifice they make.

I fail to see the point of your post. You're 'more comfortable' with guys dying in the name of protecting the Constitution but not women? That's just not a little sexist? You're angry because a woman dies but you're not proud of her sacrifice?

Women have died in service to their country during the Iraqi War. How can their death mean one thing and a guy's another?

Well, I reckon that I'd be rightly upset if I was rejected from the military because somebody else decided they couldn't handle seeing my dead body.

And women aren't being drafted. The ones who enlist have demanded to be allowed to enlist, and somebody else's feelings about it are not relevant.

even if that means we might lose them
my sister and brother are both in iraq right now
I fear for them both and want both of them to come home safely
