No he is not kidding, we must work in pairs to keep each other safe. If it were not for my assistant I would likely be dead by now. LOL.......I have no assistant, I am the only one in the store who even knows how to remove the back of some of these units.

The black tube is between the IHVT assembly and the CRT, that's what carries the high voltage from the transformer to the CRT.

Yes we travel in packs these days, instead of standing in the streets cussing each other. There are so few of us these days, we must use the Internet to do our cussing, and discussing.

The BLACK TUBE connected with the BLACK WIRE and suction cup is the HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER. It provides 22,000 to 33,000 Volts to the CRT (picture tube).

Hurts like hell if you come in contact with it while turned on...
Hurts like hell if it's turned OFF....it stores a good charge of energy even if it's turned off.....

And you don't want to come in contact with it while that TV is turned on....it will NOT let go of you.
So you could sit there all day getting cauterized....fortunately due to convulsions you eventually will break the connection, but your TV might end up across the room. Hopefully in one piece.

That's why techs work in pairs at the bench....

The cathode ray tube is the name for the entire glass picture tube. It is powered by an electron gun farthest from the screen of the crt. The electrons are steered by the copper coil you see infront of the emission tube. This way, electrons are project onto the phosphorous screen.

If you mean the black 'pipe' that is plugged to the side of the tube, it is a highly insulated cable that carries the very high voltage that the tube needs needs to work. A big colour tube will need 30,000 Volts up this! It's called the EHT (Extra High Tension) cable.

TV Tech-man is only kidding when he says that's why TV Techs work in pairs at the bench !!! still its a thought though and you would be able to charge 2 man hours instead of 1 !

not something it there to permit the coolant out if it get too finished. There would desire to be a hose coming from the radiator to the reservoir ( in on the backside i think of) and the hose interior the suitable of the reservoir is merely an over flow hose. Tim

It's called flyback transformer which produce high voltage for CRT and other medium voltages for supporting circuits such as screen voltage.
