Why male genitals are clearly shown in sculptures and paintings and female genitals are never shown?

For the obvious reason that most of the female genitalia is internal, not external. We are different from men that way, in case you didn't know.

But when you say that female genitals are never shown, you're just simply flat wrong. The externally visible parts of female genitalia, as well as female breasts, have been the subject of paintings and sculptures for as long as there have been paintings and sculptures. You just haven't seen enough paintings and sculpture yet, and you should fix that.

Hi,

At the D'Orsay there's a painting of a vagina from a famous painter (can't recall his name).
I think that in order to depict more or less obviously the female sex, the painting would have to be too «obvious» thus loosing the aesthetic sense.
Female nudity is beautiful and together with good taste, makes great paintings.

It is a Greek roman thing. It was a male dominated world and to put it very simply: Only men had a body that could be admired. Women should be worshiped because of other qualities.

I think it's about time that this was changed. I tried to do exactly that in my painting "Searching for the Light", which you can see at http://www.notthetate.co.uk/lizzie .

It wasn't appreciated by women, although the men quite liked it.. weird.
