Back in Civil War times, a girl had more opportunities to wear a formal gown. Even middle class class girls could expect to attend private dances, balls, and proms. The dance might be held in your neighbor's dining room with the furniture removed or at the local firehouse, but the girls dressed to the nines in elaborate FORMAL gowns. The single girls of the extended family were the center of attention for weeks or months before the ball as gowns were altered and trimmed, new hairstyles were tried, new dances practiced after supper.
Over time, there were fewer and fewer balls and dances, and
girls had fewer and fewer opportunities to trim and wear a formal gown, be the center of family attention. Since dress for High School Proms has become less the innocent young girl "Debutante Ball" style and more of a mature and worldly "Hollywood Starlet" style, her wedding my be a girl's ONLY chance to shine in that style.
When it's a once in a lifetime thing, one tends to make deal out of it, yes?

Some woman have been imagining their wedding since they were little girls. Therefore they want the wedding of their dreams.
Unfortunately, some women get so obsessive about the whole thing, that they take it to the extreme. Not good!

Yes it is, specialy if it is first time...It's the only time where the bride feel so much love and the time to be proud of the future husband. Planning to make the wedding a successful and no other left behind as to start a new life with someone whom they love. Be bless and a lot good things included.

Don't generalize. I'm a girl, and not only do I hate huge ceremonies (including weddings), but I would rather not be married at all.

Because society sells them a bill of goods teaching them that it's supposed to be a huge deal, and the biggest day of their lives, and all that crap, and most of them are too inexperienced to defy that much societal pressure.

I am honestly not one to get all fussed over my wedding. My partner and I are going to Fiji to get married on a beach, no guests and no family. Just us and the beautiful view.
