Physically every human brain functions in the same way. But every person has a mind of his/her own. Soul is the essence of yourself -- pure you, including your mind, your experiences, etc. Spirit is the thing that makes you a living being. When you die, your brain shuts down. Your life-force (Spirit) leaves you. Some people's minds continue to operate for some time after the brain has collapsed. The soul, however, never leaves the body as it is not really in the body to begin with. The soul of you is what makes you unique and special. That remains forever and it is forever unchanging, and unchangeable.

Theoretically, to understand a system, it is essential to decompose and reunite the sub-components. Apparently, this makes the system a little more complex, but this process increases the depth of knowledge at an intellectual level, which makes the practical easy.

That's why human system has been divided into mind, body and spirit.

Body is gross and mind is subtle. In other words we can say that body is gross mind and mind is subtle body. Same is the case with spirit, which is subtler than mind and binds the body and mind.

Animals have a brain, but to the best of my ability to tell, they don't have a soul or a "spirit" (although some do have a bit of what I'll call "mind"). What those things ARE, I'm not sure - but I do feel that there's more to the spirit than grey matter.

I believe so. There is zero evidence to suggest otherwise, at least. NDEs are often offered as evidence to the contrary, but this goes out the window immediately when you realize that clinical death is NOT brain death.

These three are the same. I think; therefore, I am. Spirit is also use to name invisible life forms such as angels, not ghosts.

The body only holds the soul. Your body will die, but the soul is forever.
