Many say that Catholics don't follow the Bible or even read it,
yet we were the first to put the bible together, our Mass is based on the teachings of the Bible

All Bibles came from the Catholic Bible with less books,

So how can you say we do not follow the Bible when we have the original?

It's the protestants who follow late day, false faith traditions that are not found anywhere in scripture.

"Salvation by faith alone" and the doctrine of "Scripture Alone" cannot be found in scripture.

In fact, nowhere in the bible can we find any passage where God commands anyone to write any scripture at all ... let alone giving scripture authority over his church.

Furthermore, when Jesus gave the apostles the great commission, to go out teaching and baptizing, Jesus NEVER even suggested using the bible to do it.

The church operated quite successfully for some 400 years without a bible, proving that the church is NOT required to FOLLOW the bible, but that the bible is a God inspired product of the authentic church ... and it remains subject to the church, which is of course, always subject to God.

Protestants like to use the bible to try to usurp the power that Jesus clearly gave only to the church.

And since they obviously discount Jesus' own words when he instituted the Holy Eucharist and the new covenant priesthood, and Jesus' own words appointing Peter as the leader of the church, and Jesus' own words giving his church alone the extraordinary power of binding and loosing on earth and in heaven, protestants must think Jesus is either a liar or a fool.

So much for the idea of faith alone!

Jesus remains King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and he founded only one church, the Catholic church, for the purpose of our salvation.

It was the Catholic church that compiled all the old testament scriptures, wrote all the new testament scriptures, canonized the authentic ones, translated the whole lot into the language of the common people, and faithfully preserved the word of God from any and all corruption for a thousand years ... until the protestants came along and promptly removed what they didn't like, and then began to retranslate that which they did, introducing damnable heresies by the score.

The Catholic Bible remains today essentially the same as it has always been ... complete and holy ... and lacking nothing ... as does the authentic Catholic faith.

So ... who CHANGED the Bible? Who REALLY doesn't FOLLOW the bible ... and NEVER did?

PROTESTANTS!

There are many things in the Catholic church that are done which are not biblical. It doesnt matter who says what. Biblical teaching and living are to be followed. The word Mass is not in the bible, but yet neither is Rapture. The rosary is not to be practiced. Jesus said himself that a prayer of repeation should not be used. There is no where in scripture that says we are to pray to saints, angels or other persons or images. In fact, it says that we SHOULD NOT do these things. This is idolitry. Insense is used....for what purpose? This is not needed. There is no purgatory. This word is not even in the bible, nor is there any information suggestion there is such a place. The bible clearly states that...to be absent from the body and present with the Lord(but this only for believers). Praying for the dead is not needed. This is also preached against.

All we need is Jesus. The rest is a bonus. If we do anything to add or take away from what Jesus did on the CROSS...then we are saying that Jesus sacrifice is not enough. When he said....IT IS FINISHED...thats what Jesus ment. I don't care who did if first. I care what is being done RIGHT!!!! I am not judging anyone. God is the judge. If you are Catholic...then read the bible and look at what scripture says. Then line it up with what goes on in your church. If you dont see it in scripture, then there is a problem. There are some things that are in scripture that you dont see. These are also a problem. In many churches you dont see the teaching or moving of the Holy Spirit. This is also wrong. The Catholic church is not the only one having issues. But I think they are making some changes, because people within the church are seeing the issues which need to be changed.

Bottom line is this. Know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Jesus said that. Jesus is the answer here. I can understand you defending your faith. But dont defend a denomonation until you clearly know the truth. You may think you know, but the Bible is the truth.

Your words are falling on deaf ears yet again.

They'll probably say something like Catholics translated the Bible the way they wanted it to be translated. But you know what King James did exactly that when he had the Bible retranslated to make it look like the Church was evil.

That's why Catholic Bibles are longer. Sorta makes you feel proud doesn't it?

Isis, there was no Bible until the Catholics made one. Yeah we added and took away but how else do you make something. Without us there would be no written record of Christ. Even if we didn't create the Bible we perserved it. It would have been lost forever if we hadn't have gotten our hands on it. If it weren't for King James, there would still be ONLY ONE Bible. So who added and took away from the Bible. (hint: King James wasn't Catholic)

bandaidgirl, you don't agree with repticious prayer but it's ok to say the Our Father? You make no sense. No all those words aren't in the Bible but the concepts are. Mass is just another name for Church service. I could explain everything you said away excepting the Rapture because that's not a Catholic belief and it's not completely biblical.

Jesus M, the Bible does NOT forbid the baptism of babies. It says entire house holds were baptised meaning ALL AGES. The Bible accutally supports infant baptism.

"When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." (Mark 10:14)

I'm not even reading the rest of these I don't have enough time to correct all these people.

We non-Catholic believers typically say that you (i.e., the Roman Catholic Church) ADD to the Bible through extra-biblical sources. I'm not talking about the Apocrypha, but other man-made doctrinal sources that often (but most certaily not always) jibe with bible-based doctrine.

FYI: Protestants don't have any problem with the Apocryphal books... they aren't "evil." We just don't believe they meet the same standard of authenticity as the other 66 books. Please note that most early "protestant" Bibles included the apocryphal books, and I could certainly go to any reasonable Christian bookstore in the world and pick up a copy. Again, they aren't viewede as "wrong," just that they are deemed less reliable, and therefore their provenance is undetermined.

So, for the Protestant, we say the 66 books of the Bible, alone, are sufficient. For the Catholic, they say (or by action demonstrate) that there is more to the Christian faith than can be discerned from reading the bible. Purgatory, as a doctrinal concept, or the immaculate conception of Mary, for examples. (Immaculate conception means that Mary was born "kept from sin," and is completely different from the critical doctrinal issue that all true Christians believe, that Mary, by the power of the Holy Spirit conceived Jesus in her womb while she was still a virgin.)
Immaculate conception: zero biblical support.
Virgin birth: 100% biblical support
Purgatory: highly contrived "biblical" support that stands in direct contradiction with other biblical passages that are black-and-white: i.e., "it is appointed once for each man to die, and then the judgment."

Do you really think so? Check what the Douay bible - the one the Catholics use - and the King James Bible say with respect to the Ten Commandments. The Catholic bible had to change some things around because one of the major practices violates one of the commandments. So they deleted one provision and made a different one into two to get around this.

There are many different versions of the Bible, and every religion that uses theirs claims it is the definitive one and the others aren't. Just like every religion claims it's the "One True Faith of God" and all others are a "Trap of Satan".

''So how can you say we do not follow the Bible when we have the original?''

Perhaps it is because you follow disgusting pagan practices and teachings like the immortal soul , hellfire and the trinity doctrine.

Perhaps its because if the hypocracy of the church , and the churches dealings during war time and its support of Hitler.

--and of course lets not forget what happened to the countless people that didn't convert during the crusades.

Perhaps it is because you don't teach what is really found in the Bible and you still hide Gods true name.

Without a doubt the Catholic church is at the head position of Satan's false religious world empire that will soon be destroyed at Armageddon.

God gave us the Bible not the Catholic church. The Catholic church keep the Bible in a dead language, this is called the dark ages in world history. After the printing press came the Bible was printed in other languages.

Do you believe in Acts 2:38? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for(unto) the remissions of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Immerison is baptism,: Acts 2:41,47, Rom. 6: 3-4. 2 Pet.3:21, Gal.3:27 Col.1:13.

There is to be no division in Christianity. 1Cor.1:10-14. 1Cor.12:25, Rom. 16:17, Rom 15:5-6, Eph.4:1-16, Phil.1:27, John 10:1,& Gal.1:6-9.

Please read, Acts 20:28-32, 2 Pet.1:20,21, 2Pet.1:3, 1Tim.4:1-5, 2Thes.2:1-12.

Also Eph. 1:22,23 Col. 1:18

Pleas explain 1 Tim.3:2,4.

We are not to add to or takeaway from the Word of God. Deut 4:2, Pro. 30:6, & Rev.22:18,19.

What are u talking about?! Let me ask you this, Do you memorize scripture? Have you ever read and I mean thoroughly studied the Bible from cover to cover? and you couldnt be more incorrect, the catholics had nothing to do with putting the Bible together. Catholics decided to add to write thier own book?...for Jesus said 'Thou shalt not add too nor take away from the word of my Father.'
Where is the Pope in the Bible?

If you want the closest interpretation of what the Bible actually was supposed to say before the hundreds of translations you are going to have to get used to the "thees and thous". I find though that the King James Version of the Bible has gone through less translations and is fairly easy to understand.

When I was a kid, I had to go to Mass celebrated in a language that I didn't really know. (no, not Latin), so I was very bored. Even when I learned to read the English side of the Missal, (followed along in my mind) it didn't really hit me that any of it was biblical. It was just made up by some really holy guy, I thought. But time and again (we read the bible daily at home), I'd be surprised to hear bits of the Mass pop out at me whenever we cracked open the Holy Book...EVEN THE CREED!!!! (I totally thought that was made up by some holy guy later on.) Man, I became one smug Catholic, I can tell you. All my Mennonite friends can raz me all they want. I've got the drop on them for sure! XD
