If it's your first offense, you might be able to get diversion, otherwise you will pay a fine, and in some states you can have your drivers license suspended.

First, don't sweat the small stuff. An M.I.P. is a minor misdemeanor and usually you get hit with a small fine. An M.I.P. citation is almost a rite of passage anymore. It's the "bread and butter" ticket for most Campus Police.
You go to court, plead guilty, make big innocent goo-goo eyes at the judge, and pay a small fine.
This does go on your "record" but it is so minor an offense that it has no effect on any future employment or security clearance.

A minor in possession.....well if it was just alcohol you'll probably just get a fine and maybe some community service and if the judge is a real d!ck you could get probation. But if it's for narcotics you will get all of this.
