Thank you for the question! As others, i believe our very essence is embodied by the soul...it is who and what we are in every sense of the word.....
Just because the physical body dies, as it was meant to , our spirit or soul lives on...

Yes there are reports of near death experiences, where people have been declared dead and have come back. These experiences come from around the world. I think being dead feels like nothing. If yu have ever been put to sleep for an operation then you will have a small experience of death. Non of us know what happens to the soul. That question is age old. So science tells that you are just dead, but people form around the world believe that the soul or consciousness can live after the body is gone. It could be in the form of spirits. The Greeks believe that when we die, all of us, we cross over the river Lethe where we go through a sort of soul cleansing, Then when that is over we go to the Elysian fields which are like a meadow where everything is wonderful. Then the soul goes back to another life. This is a very sketchy description, but the point is that all cultures describe some Life after death. it is a way of reducing the fear of dying. So I guess you can take your pick of what to be live. I know I don't believe that there is a physical heaven or hell.

The brain controls the body functions, nerves, etc, the soul is immortal and does not need a brain to survive, the body, however, does. The soul is where you live, it is who you are.

When you die, your soul leaves the body, but your soul is eternal, and after the body dies, you are still "you",it is where we live and think, have feelings and emotions, the brain is simply an organ.

I died on Oct 9, 1986, and the drs brought me back. I felt exactly the same and did not know that my body had died until I seen the drs and nurses working on my body and "I" was suspended in mid-air, until then I felt exactly the same, I could see, hear, think and feel emotion and move around outside my physical body that was laying covered in blood on the operating table. I heard everything they said and really blew their minds when I told them later what I'd seen after they had saved my life.

That's when I realized our body is just a shell, and our soul is where we live, then I realized I was a spirit who lived inside of a body, and so is everyone else. Our body is just a shell. When the body dies, our soul leaves the body, Our soul, which is living is what gives the body life, and without a spirit/soul, the body dies.

The Bible is clear on the matter of the soul.
So if you want to know what happens to the soul at death you must consider what it has to say.

The Bible says the the whole living person is a living soul.
No where does it say that the soul is some mystical spirit creature that leaves the body at death and lives on elsewhere.

In fact it refers to the soul as eating , breathing , bleeding and even dying.
Yes , the teaching of the immortal soul is not from God , but from Satanic pagan sources.

You may choose to continue to believe in it if you wish , but your should also be clear as to what its origins are from and who you in fact following.

Imagine your spirit like a glove on your hand, it moves along with your fingers, it stretches to conform to your hand.

When your "hand" dies, the form your "glove" has taken keeps it's state even after the death of your body or your brain. The soul is an active intelligence, with or without your physical brain. Your physical brain was simply a way for you to experience learning in a physical and mortal body, it had physical and biological limits.

Your soul's intelligence is infinite.

NO TORTURE BUT SILENCE

Psm.115:15 Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth.
115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's: but the
earth hath he given to the children of men.115:17 The dead praise
not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

GOD HAS THE LIFE OF THE SOUL WITH HIM

Psm.104:29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest
away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.104:30 Thou
sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest
the face of the earth.

NO TORTURE NO THOUGHT

Psm.146:3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man,
in whom there is no help.146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth
to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

RESURRECTION

Isa.26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall
they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is
as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

Eze.37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord
GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to
come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
37:13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your
graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,
37:14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall
place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have
spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
1Cor.15:22-28,51-53; The heavenly and the earthly resurrected.

Our soul isnt confined to our brain, and a physical death does not mean the death of the soul. . . If i were to cut off an appendage, would your soul lose that appendage?

I died, but my consciousness didn't.

I still knew who I was, I still was exactly the same, mentally, emotionally, etc.

I still had a total sense of being me, everything I had lived and learned was still there, so apparently the brain dies, but whatever the consciousness is, doesn't.

I just had no body. But I was still me, everything except a body.

The teaching that the 'soul' is separate from the body is false.
The Hebrew word translates ' soul' is NEPHESH, AND THIS MEANS...THAT WHICH BREATHES.
It indciates that our soul is the complete person, not a separate part.
This is backed by scripture.
(Ezekiel 18:4) Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die.

You have to be alive to sin.

(Genesis 1:20-21) And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good.

(Genesis 1:24-25) And God went on to say: “Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind.” And it came to be so. 25 And God proceeded to make the wild beast of the earth according to its kind and the domestic animal according to its kind and every moving animal of the ground according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good.

LIVING SOULS...

THERE IS NO INDICATION HERE OF ANY SEPARATE SPIRITUAL PART.

the brain does not produce any form of intelligence or knowledge.its just like a transformer converting higher vibrations to lower ones depending on the allowable brain cells (aka portals) that are open in your brain.the million dollar question is...who where or what is giving us knowledge???...find that and you get your answer!!
