My LCD HDTV has a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution but when I try to use it as a Monitor for my laptop, it only works as 800 x 600 or worse. Is it my cable or am I missing something?

...anything...? Will using a different cable (s-video) be better, or a more expensive VGA cable?

Changing cables will not IMPROVE the picture....

Your native resolution is 1366x768....

768 is CLOSEST to 600....

Your TV will work with that resolution, but the INTEGRATED CIRCUITS inside the TV set only recognize SOME of the computer's display settings and NOT ALL OF THEM.....

That's the way they are built.....

If you want HIGHER resolutions, take a look at the book for information/specifications on VGA input....it will give you the information you need...
You may not want to read it, but it will show you the facts.

Your question is on the united kingdom & eire in simple terms website so i assume it really is the position you're. i do not comprehend what you recommend by having a range of 720p or 1080p television. there is not any decision. the alternative about 720p or 1080i is made by the programme maker, no longer by the guy gazing the television set. the television will adjust itself to examine the incoming photo signal. for instance, ninety% of HD pictures from Sky are 720p. a number of those are "upscaled" from programmes made in 625i yet no viewer complains about the common. all of them look chuffed. i imagine this says a lot about the psycology of viewing criteria fairly than the "absolute" high quality of the photographs. All HD waiting television gadgets will coach 625i, 720p and 1080i pictures all good because they're optimised to attempt this. maximum will demonstrate also 1080p pictures once you've a source for them. There are not any broadcast programmes in 1080p on both terrestrial, cable or satellite tv for pc. there is in simple terms no longer any both because it should be far too severe priced. until eventually you do countless HD gaming or gazing Blu-ray discs the 1080p is amazingly beside the point. In different words. do not get fazed by the 1080p snobs. maximum of them do not fairly comprehend the technical topics or understand what they're speaking about. you would possibly want to purchase the television that maximum just about matches your funds, residing room and different sensible criteria.

You have to use VGA
neither composite or s-video cables support HD resolutions.
