My tooth is hurting really bad, but only when i like bite down on it or if i eat something, which causes me to bite down on it. I have seen some other ones saying if it always hurts it's a rootcanal, but it like, i can barely feel if it hurts or not when i'm not biting on it. Is it a cavity or rootcanal?

A root canal is the name of a procedure for killing the nerves attached to a tooth. Sounds like it could be a cavity, but how about having it checked by a dentist to be sure.

It sounds like the nerve in your tooth has gone bad and you will need a root canal. It could be caused by a cavity or even a cracked tooth. I've had at least six root canals in my life and they aren't really painful, just unpleasant. Afterwards, you'll be glad you had it done because you will never feel any pain in that tooth again. You'll have some soreness from the procedure itself but the tooth itself is dead and doesn't have any sensation. One way I can tell which of my teeth have had root canals performed in them is to put a piece of foil in my mouth. If you have had any sort of metal restoration work done on your teeth (such as fillings or crowns), you will feel a jolt in the tooth. If the tooth had a root canal, you will feel nothing.

It actually sounds like you either have a crack in the tooth, or a tooth that died a quiet death. Cavity hurts to sweets generally. Is there temperature sensitivity? If not, I'm leaning more towards a dead nerve, which would mean a root canal. Have your dentist do the appropriate tests, to figure out which.
