Hi, I got glasses a week ago and the eye doctor said my right eye was -1.75 and my left eye was -2.25. I forgot to ask him what these numbers were and how bad my eyes are. He just told me that I needed glasses from long time ago. Can anybody tell me if my eyes are bad? I know I'm near sighted but that's all I know... Thanks.

These numbers are in "diopters".

1.75 and 2.25 are fairly mild corrections.

1 diopter is hardly worth correcting.
Cheap generic reading glasses (for those of us whose "arms are getting shorter") generally start at 1.25 (and go up to maybe 3 or 4 diopters).

the larger the number the stronger the glasses. A - number is for near sighted and + number is for far sighted. so a 1.0 would normally be the first level that you would get glasses. Hope this helps.

these are concave lenses with their diopter given in numbers.a + sign would mean convex lenses.-1.75 means focal length of 57 cms and -2.25 means 44.4 cms .it is the focal length of the lens needed to exactly focus an image on your retina.as long as your near sightedness is correctable there is nothin bad about it.people even have -14 lenses.

That's nothing terrible or remarkable, but you wouldn't have been legal driving a car without them!

A good number of people with that Rx would wear it all the time, but some would keep it for driving, watching sport and TV etc.
There's no real medical benefit either way, it's purely personal prerference.

(I hit -14.00 in the worst meridian of my worst eye)
