All my kids had water-proof mattress covers. The girls wore bed-time pullups until probably 4 or 5, and my son had random accidents until 7. I'm told is actually fairly common for kids, it's just not 'socially acceptable' so many people act like it's not normal.

I have 3 boys 7,5, and 3. The 3 yr old is still in diapers fulltime, my 5 yr old wears diapers at night for bedwetting and my 7 yr old was about 4 1/2 when he stopped wearing a diaper at night.

I was a bed wetter until my early teen years and I wore a diaper everynight to bed. I agree, so many people are ashamed to admit they wet the bed or make such a big deal about wearing a diaper or having a older child wear a diaper for protection. So many people think that you are weird or abnormal if you wet the bed but thats them just being stupid. I see nothing wrong with a person (baby, toddler, child, teen, adult, elder who ever) wearing a diaper for protection when needed. Its a diaper not the plauge.

It is really sad that in our society we don't like to talk about our children wetting the bed. The fact is, it is common for a child to wet the bed up until their teenage years.

Because we don't talk about it, or because we are ashamed, our children are the ones that suffer.

Bed wetting has nothing to do with how we raise our children, or what kind of parents we are. It is a physical condition that usually corrects it'self with time.

Bravo to the college student who told his story. If more people were as honest as he has been, our kids would not feel so all alone.

The best thing that you can do for your child is let them know that it is not their fault. Let them know that thay are not alone and that it will get better.

I was so fortunate to have a good pediatrician when my son was growing up. My son too had this condition until his teenage years, and he turned out just fine.

I was 12, and even then I would have occasional accidents if I was over tired, stressed, or drank too much. I didnt wear anything but still had a plastic sheet on my bed in COLLEGE if that tells you anything. Now I'm happily married and it only happens once in a blue moon, and my wife (being a decent and understanding person) is totally understanding and supportive about it when it does.

I'm only a 1% case though. Don't stress. It happens a LOT more commonly than you think, and 99% of cases disappear completely by age 15. Just support and encourage your kid and keep hoping for the best. Good luck! :)

my daughter is 5 and still wets and has only stopped in the last week. here are some tips as i have seen an incontinence nurse.

take your child to the toilet before bed. 3 hours later go and wake the child and make them walk to the toilet and empty their bladder. if they are dry the next morning you cut the time may that night by half an hour. so if you put your child to bed at 8:00 lift them at 11:00 then the next night 10:30 and so on. but if they wet put the time back up 30 mins. continue dropping the time by 30 mins until you have brought them back to bedtime this seems to be working for my daughter.

its not reccomended that you stop their drinks b4 bed as this is not training the bladder to stretch and hold the fluid.

i hope this helps.

Rather old.

Basically, I left the plastic on the mattress. I told my children to tell me when the bed was wet so that I could wash the sheets and blanket.

You could check the beds before you go to sleep and wake up in the morning.

I never yelled at them.

There are devices that will alarm when the underwear is wet. They never woke the children, but they did wake me.

I was 3 years old when i stoped, but it actually varies from the way they are raised and if they had any health problems as babies. my sister stoped when she was 9 years old. that was after my parents went crazy looking for the answer of why. turns out that as a babie she has strong colic and it had affected her stomach and also she just coulnt realize when she had to go in the night...it all depends in age and ways u where raised
