Nothing. "Life" is merely a chemical chain reaction, just like a campfire, but much more complex. Deny the reaction something it needs, like oxygen or vitamin C, and the reaction stops, which is what we call death.

The Bible brings out that when you die, you die! Nothing lives on after that. Ecclesiastes 9:5. But death is a temporary thing. God gives us the hope of a resurrection.

I'm very surprised at the answers here. I thought there were be more atheists who believed in reincarnation or another form of consciousness after death.

Life has no meaning, we got here by accident, and we do what we can with the accident.......................nothing leaves, just a mass of jelly....though I would like to believe there is more than this life, but I see no proof of it. It's hard to think something leaves the body, after you've een a dead body up close..just looks.......dead.

I've been with two relatives as they died. Nothing left their bodies other than the exhale of their last breath.

What makes you think that anything leaves the body when you die. If you die and that's it - then there is no judgment or heaven or hell - so why the question; is there some nagging doubt about all this?

So far, the only thing that "leaves" the body is energy or more precisely all functions stop. So far, there is no evidence for anything else.

nothing bad bout being atheist your just a man of science.... is atoms, they get recycled into the soil...and then you help feed a grass or a plant maybe!!!yeah lets recycle!!!
