and no, I am not talking about disaster relief, I'm referring to backfilling positions

The majority are considered unaccompanied as they are ususally listed as deployments, not a normal assignment/PCS. Chances are he will be given either a dorm room or a hotel room (which is still considered living on base). Spouses and families are generally not eligable or allowed to move, although you may do so if you decide to but will have to pay all the costs (rent included) out of pocket.

unaccompanied. treat it just like a regular Overseas deployment.

Sure, you could move there..on your own dime,and get no help from the military, plus run the risk of the servicemember not being able to take any time off or live off base with you. if you do move, you also lose FSH too.

unaccompanied with a few exceptions but the large majority is unaccompanied.

If your being deployed with a reserve unit it is unaccopanied.
