Specifically, I meant to ask how long can it stay in its crate without going to the bathroom at night. I wake up at around 6 am and I put her to sleep at like 9. Should I take her out to the bathroom in the middle of the night or should I put her to sleep later?

I just got her today and put her in her crate. She cried for like a minute literally and stopped and fell asleep :]
Thanks for all the advice.

Cut water off after 7:30. Take her out one last time at 9 or so. She should be able to go till 6. But not always. Be sure she is somewhere where you can here her if she cries. They have full control of their bladders at 6 months. I wish my human son did. LOL:)

you should take her out in the middle of the night. It is an inconvenience, but in a month it will start to fade. It is also so worth it, as it helps to train her to not panic in her crate.
She should be in her crate about four hours and then let out. You may even go five if she is getting close to four months. The general rule is one hour per a month of age plus one.
By doing what you are doing, you are on the right tract. Definitely don't make her go too long without going out to potty, as females usually get Urinary Tract Infections easier than males, and it is usually around the potty training issue that it occurs.
Best of luck.

I think the average adult dog would whine to go out before 6 am if it was locked up at 9pm. Take the pup out as late as you can before you go to bed and then plan to take it out very early or at least once during the night. That baby can only hold it about 3 hours at the most. At 3 months of age, it really doesn't have much control over it's bladder and bowels yet.

If you get up, then take her out. As she gets older though, don't make a habit of it. Our adult dogs are willing to sleep in with us. Take away water and keep her awake a few hours before bed so that she'll sleep through the night.

I'm told a good rule of thumb is that they can stay in the cage for one hour for every month, up to about 8 months or so. Most dogs can't hold it longer than about 8 hours.
So, your three month old puppy can be expected to stay in the crate for about three hours.

All I'll say is that I read the title of this question and thought "I hope he doesn't mean a baby!" I need more sleep, but I hope that makes you laugh that for a moment, I was indignant!
