Just Before Labor Begins: canine labor pregnant birth dog puppies
Pregnancy in dogs last approximately 63 days (56-69 days). Toy breeds may deliver a week earlier while large breeds often deliver later. Two weeks before your dog’s due date, begin to take its temperature at noon. Purchase a rectal or oral thermometer but use it rectally. You can lubricate it with margarine or KY jelly and insert it about an inch. Leave it in place for three minutes. Your dog’s temperature should be between 101 and 102.5 Fahrenheit. When the pet’s temperature drops below 100F she should deliver the pups in less than twenty-four hours.

Hi there. Not trying to be rude, but what exactly are you looking for? You have posted this question multiple times and you have received many great answers. You posted multiple questions before tonight and received many great answers then. I saw answers telling you exactly what you need to do to be ready for this whole process. Do you have a mentor? Did you get a book? Did you find a reliable website? Do you have a vet on call? I'm only answering this way because your dog is about to bring new life into this world. YOU are responsible for these new lives. Getting all of your answers from a Q&A forum isn't the best idea. You now need to take the appropriate steps to be ready for aspects of what is going to take place in the next several days. Do you know how long a dog should be in labor before you need to rush her to the vet? Are you financially prepared for a possible c-section? Do you have puppy milk replacer and bottles on hand just in case? Did you research how to help the mom deliver? Do you have a suction bulb? Basically what I'm saying is get off of YA and get yourself ready. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm simply speaking with the mother and her puppies best interest in mind. Good luck! I wish you a safe and speedy whelp. But let the vet know you may be calling.

Dogs can deliver anytime from day 58 up to day 65 but due to the temperature of your dog, she sounds like she should already be in labor and that you should see signs of it. Is she digging around, restless, trying to get comfortable in her whelping box? Has she refused food? Has the water bag broken yet? You may need to contact your Vet if she has had this low temperature for 12 hours and nothing is happening yet. I wouldn't plan on getting any sleep tonight, someone needs to stay with her and watch her. You need to be aware if she is in trouble so that you can take action if need be.

She'll start panting and nesting, or making a bed. You'll notice that she might be a little more stand off. Make sure after she delivers that mom and pups go to the vet. The best you can do for her now is keep her comfortable. You may notice that she won't eat either.

I don't know about the temperature. Dogs are usually pregnant for 63 days so she is about ready. They usually pant when they are in labor. Is she hiding? They also will pick a place away from everyone to deliver their puppies.
