You don't always. I can accept a short message in Spanish telling a caller to press 2 for Spanish, but English is the dominant language and we should be able to just talk without pressing any buttons.

However, that isn't the way life is going on. Just grit your teeth and press 1, but complain a lot.

America did not invent English, but it was discovered and established by English-speaking men. English is the set language of the United States.

The reason why we have to press 1 for English is because of all the immigrants from Mexico coming into American who refuse to learn the NATIONAL LANGUAGE OF THE COUNTRY. I have nothing against immigrants, but when we go to Mexico, France, or China to LIVE, we LEARN the language instead of making the Government give us the "press 2" option.. I think any immigrant to our country should do the same.

Well, using both deductive reasoning and trial-and-error, I have come to the conclusion that if you do not "press 1 for English" you get to speak to a Spanish computer lady.

So, Obviously every business with customer service assumes that everyone in the world either speaks English or Spanish.

I always wondered what happens if a customer calls from Checzoslovakia?

In Mexico, do they have a press 2 for English? Hell, no. They have a person yammering in Spanish and that's it.

IT'S INSULTING! We are an English speaking country! It's not hard to push "1" but it's the principle of the thing!

So many answers and so many insulting twits! How dare you people say I should learn Spanish or that Spanish will become the dominant language!

I REFUSE to learn Spanish and I live in S. California, with all the fires!

Take that little peanut you have for a brain and count the number of Spanish speaking nations in the world doing business with the US. We outnumber all you jackasses. Plus I have the choice to hit one and if I hit 2 its okay because i know that language too. I know 3 other languages as well. so bring on 3, 4 and 5.
I know as stupid as Americans are failing tests in school and barely passing through college and I bet you barely finished high school, you are going to sit there and feel proud that you can barely speak English yourself. brother please.

I have a solution ....
We trade 38 illegal aliens to oil producing middle eastern countries for camels. It solves multiple problems ..... two of which are

1. It gets rid of the financial drain of illegal alien free loaders.
and
2. We reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
3. We don't have to press #1 for English!

Sound like a plan?

Don't even get me started! That irritates the crap out of me! What the hell country am I in? This is America! If I moved to Mexico, I would expect to have to learn Spanish. If I moved to Italy, I would expect to have to learn Italian! If I moved to France, I would expect to have to learn French! If these people want to live here, they should be required to learn our language!

Because companies realize how much business they are getting from Spanish speakers. Think of it this way, lets say you move to Japan...and they had 2 electric companies. One had Japanese only service, the other offered Japanese and English, granted you know enough japanese to get a conversation going but you would feel more comfortable doing business in English, in your own language. Thats what these companies are doing. They are smart! I don't understand why the complaining? Is it too much work to press 1?
