I'm graduating in spring 2008 with a BA in CJ. I would love to join the FBI/DEA/Secret service with in the next 5 yrs. I'm aware of the special critical skills one needs such as: accounting/language/computer science. Sadly, i do not fit into that criteria and I can't afford, being a civilian, to further my education with a masters. My plan is to join one of the branches to gain valuable military experience that would make me a canidate for a government job. In addition to enlisting which branch would be better for being able to continue my education while in service. I currently work as a pharmacy technician. I would love to work as a special agent or intel in the military and as a government job.I hope i have given enough information for those who are trying to guide me through my inquires. Any suggestions?

Thank You i appreciate it in advance.

Before you join the service, check this out.

You might glad you did. If you're still bent on joining the service hit up the Navy. Tha USAF is good but too *gravy* if you know what I mean. The Navy will make you good AND hardcore without putting you through the wringer.

Whatever you do DO NOT ENTER INTO THE MILITARY AS *ENLISTED* You belong in officer's country- don't accept anything less.

First, don't "enlist". if it is your goal to join FBI/DEA/Secret Service you should apply for one of the service academy schools. Air Force Academy, Naval Academy (also for Marines) or West Point for the Army. As a commissioned officer in the service you will have valuable experience and better education. and looks much more favorable to the govt agencies when you are completed with your service. I believe to go to these service academys, you have to be appointed by a member of congress, which isn't that hard. Got to the school your at now and talk to the ROTC over there and ask for assistance. Try to stay away from the recruiters you see in the street, they will try to have you enlist as a lower ranking member of the service.

You sound like a prime candidate for the Air Force Office of Special Investigation. Since you will have a bachelors degree you can join as an officer and as such the Air Force will offer to pay off many student bills for a few years of service. Contact your local AF recruiter and see what is available.

See if you can get into the legal office system of the Navy or Air Force. Probably will have better assignment chances for furthering your education with a more permanent duty station. If not on flight duty, the AF will normally leave you at one place as long as they can to cut down on expense of transfers. Which ever way you go, get the career assignment IN WRITING before signing anything. Make sure you have a copy in your possession before leaving the office. Word of mouth guarantee, no matter how much they swear to it, is not worth anything after you walk out of the recruiting office.

If I were you I'd consider becoming a cryptologic technician in the U.S. Navy. You'll need to get a security clearance for this job or any similar job in the military... meaning that you should have good credit, no history of mental illness, be a citizen, your parents are citizens, and so on... all branches will have the G.I. bill to cover your education but I'd still suggest the Navy because they really encourage it! Your superiors would support you all the way. There are different kinds of cts but you'll be trained extensively for whichever one you choose.

I am a Marine, and from my experience the Air force or Navy is the way to go if you just want the experience and to be able to continue your education while you are still in. I got lucky and was sent back to get my degree throught he officer candidate program, but i'm a rarity in the Marines. other services are much more likely to allow you to gain some experience in the field that you are looking into and finnish your degree at the same time.

Any branch of service will be applicable to you and it just depends on your assignment whether or not you will be given opportunities to study. Just hope that you will be assigned in a camp near a university.
