I have a daughter who works and attends college. She recently was in a car accident so has to rely on others for a ride to work and school. She gladly offers me $20 a week for the gas I use when I take her where she needs to be and for others, she pays them a few dollars whenever she needs their help. You might have a low paying job, but you should put gas in the tank of someone else's vehicle. I have 3 other children who all work (one goes to school also) and they ride their bicycles everywhere they need to go. My youngest at 18 rides his bike to school in the morning at 7:30 and gets home in the evening from work at 11:00. He bikes about 20 miles a day. We live where it gets to be 110-115 in the summer and they still ride where they need to go. Get a bike or a moped. It does suck that you have to pay rent. My policy for my kids 18-22...as long as they are getting a good education they don't pay any rent. (they do take me out once a week so that's nice) I would rather they concentrate on good grades then worry about paying rent. I'm a single mom making just enough to get by and I think that with your mom and stepdad working they can afford to let you live there for free as long as you are keeping your things clean, helping around the house, putting gas in the car when you use it and getting good grades at school. Discuss your concerns with your mom. I'm sure she can help you work something out.

Well, I'd say you have a really big problem. It's a shame your family can't help each other out.
Maybe you could get a small, inexpensive place to live near the college. Use your rent money for that. Then, you wouldn't have to depend on your folks for anything. They don't seem to be very responsible.
My grand daughter does that. She works two part-time jobs and splits an apartment with another girl. They pay some of their utilities and $350 a piece for the rent. They had to sign a lease (separately).

Maybe cruise Craigslist.org and see if you can find a used scooter... the bigger the engine, the better... 250cc will get your around town pretty well.
3 gallons will last a long time at 60-90 MPG.
You will need to get a motorcycle license and carry insurance.
Check with some friends around your college... maybe several of you can rent a multi-room apartment relatively cheaply.

Hitch a ride with a friend/classmate; get a bicycle or a moped; talk it over with your stepdad again and ask him if you can drive the car if you promise never to let it get to E again, and you'll keep it vacuumed and washed for him, as well. And then keep your end of the bargain.

Maybe you could pay one of your friends to drive you to and from work/school. Or share gas expenses with a classmate and co worker.

maybe save you butt off and get a cheap dingy second hand car for about a grand or find friends who go to similar places and try and get a ride with them (offer to cover some fuel costs). otherwise a bank loan to get a car

touch their college and that they might desire to have some software which could help infants that can't arise with the money for college ingredients. many colleges have those that donate college ingredients each 12 months merely for infants that can't arise with the money for them that 12 months.
