I've often wondered that as well...along with why do mixers have a speed at which anything you would put in it would fly across the room?

I've seen this question question before on the web somewhere... "Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp that no decent human being would ever eat?"

My answer. I have no freakin' idea! :)

Maybe some people just like burnt toast.. :|

over the years the heating aspects of toasters placed on right down to the factor the place they do no longer produce an identical volume of warmth as whilst they have been kind new. via having a placing it is greater extreme, you get greater life out of your toaster via allowing you to offer greater warmth over the long term-- whilst the unique placing you used to apply now no longer crisps the toast to the wanted point.

That is one of the best questions to ask. However, do you think you will get a good answer? Maybe to make smores with toast? You know, roast marshmallows and put the chocolate between bread and marshmallows, put that over the toaster and you have a breaded smores. I am good!!!

Maybe it's because as the toaster gets older it gets weaker and that eventually becomes the only setting that does anything... I speak from experience, I've had that happen. But I do not know if that is the actual reason, lol!

it all depends on types of bread u use..maybe in some country far far away they use bread that is so hard (harder than the french bread) that u need like a thousand volt just to toast it...or maybe...just maybe..the toaster will look much better with more function instead just one or two setting for your bread..sorry my English's sucks...hope u understand what I'm trying to say...

people like different things. I personally don't care for burnt bread but some people might, so why shouldn't they have a setting on the toaster too?

Actually, my kids are QUITE decent, so was my grandma, and they all LOVE burnt...I mean, BLACK toast.

Not to the point of a charcoal ball...but where it is crispy black on the outside and just a little chewy inside.

Some people just like the bitterness of the toast...others, like my children, had a mother who couldn't cook (we adopted them), and burned everything, so that's just what the kids were raised to like.

I only want one piece of toast and I can do that in a good ole black iron skillet. Just butter one side of the bread and put it in a medium hot skillet. It'll be done real fast.

It works well for frozen waffles on a winter morning... top it off with butter and maple syrup once on your plate (not while in the toaster) lol
