I don't believe there are any PDS's established in Iraq. You will be assigned to a unit either stateside or on an overseas base that has established PDS status. (such as Germany, for the Army, or Okinawa for the Marine Corps) and will be deployed from there with the unit in which you serve, as that unit rotates in to in-country status.

The best way to guarantee a trip to Iraq is to join the National Guard. Yes really. A national guard soldier has the freedom to transfer from state to state, unit to unit. All you have to do is join in your state and once your done w/basic and AIT request an interstate transfer to the next deploying unit. I have a few friends that have done it and one that has done it twice.
Deploying National Guard units are usually under strength and are more than happy to take volunteers.

you're talking about on the requested duty stations? no, not there. You can make your wishes known though and you can request a unit/station set to send folks over. If you want to get there, it usually is just a matter of a unit that's short of people in your MOS taking volunteers.

You can request it, but it doesn't mean you'll ever get to go. I know a Marine who's been requesting it for over a year.
And FYI, it's not a duty station, it's a deployment. Your duty station is wherever you come home to. Just so you know.

Iraq is NOT a duty Station, it is a deployment location. If your unit is tasked to go there, you will go there. If not, you will go elsewhere, like Afghanistan or Korea.

You won't even have to ask, the chances of receiving that posting at the moment is about 98% I'd say

You can, but just because you ask for it doesn't mean you'll get special priviledge (like less time, more leave, etc) once you're there.
