Unfortunately probably not. Because you're 18 now you're considered to be an adult...you are no longer a child. You're mom would of had to put a court order in for the child support prior to your 18th birthday.
If you dont have a job i suggest maybe you find something part time. Check out any and all financial aid your school offers. Also i know alot of college students who work part time/ do work study/ or dont work at all who qualify for public aid such as food stamps and medicaid (health insurance).
Its tough. When i went to college i had two kids. Everyone says theres so much financial aid available...i know first hand theres not...and its alot easier said than done.

If your Mother never had a court order to receive child support I don't think there is anything you can do now,if she did have a court order, and he has not paid, he owes 18 years worth, can you go to the child support office? I don't know why not,at the very least call and ask.Child support is for the child!!!

No, you can't. If your mother never had an order of support when you were growing up, you can't go and push for one to act retroactively. Also, YOU couldn't claim that money anyway. The money for support would be his share of your food, housing, and clothing costs until you turned 18 years old. If for some reason a judge ordered him to pay the back support that he was never ordered to pay in the first place, he would be paying back your mother, not you.

Good luck I was in a similar situation and it never worked out because the parent had to be the one to push for child support until age 21. Since that didn't happen for me, I had to chuck it up as a loss.

If you live in the US...
No. If Mom had taken him to court *before you turned 18* and there was a court order in place which he failed to pay, then SHE could pursue it. But since she never did that, there is nothing that can be done now.
You can verify that by speaking with a local attorney. Many will provide a free initial consultation.

I think you can but I would get a attorney. Don't listen to kris55a. They probably don't know what they are talking about. And they give bad answers with insults. Trust me on that. My Mom went through it and you can do that. Just get an attorney and find out. Good luck.

Maybe there was a good reason your mum didnt want anything from your father she done it all on her own raising you.....trying to get money out of him now just because YOU need it and suits you, are you interested in a relationship with him or just interested in getting some money because you need it and it would help you?If he has had nothing to do with your life and upbringing they why would you want his 'help' in putting you through collage.....

Check with your local Human Resources Dept. You may be able to do something since you are still in college.. Good Luck to you though and I am very proud of you for wanting your father to step up to the plate and pay you what is rightfully yours..
