The baking soda is necessary as a leavener. There is no substitution, and the cookies won't turn out well without it. The good news is, if you can change course midstream, there are plenty of recipes that use baking powder or cream of tarter. Even though they are not the same and are not interchangeable, they do the same thing. So you might find a recipe that calls for one of those...if you have either.
More good news...baking soda is cheap and readily available. Throw on your slippers, head to the nearest gas station, and pick up a box, then go on with your cookies.
Still more good news: Many no-bake cookie recipes don't call for leavening. So maybe you should stick to something like that.

I never use baking soda in cookies - whatever the recipe says, and they always turn out fine. Go ahead and leave out the baking soda - I don't think it'll make that much difference, and certainly won't affect the flavor.

Baking soda is very important to cookies. Without baking soda, they will not rise. They will be flat and less crunchy.

Illiminate the baking soda and salt and use self rising flour instead of all purpose. The self rising already has the baking soda and salt in there and the all purpose soes not, that is why the recipet tells you to put it in.

I don't think they will rise without baking soda. You can probably go to your neighbor and get some if you don't want ot go to the store.

They'll be very very flat. Is there a super-walmart or all night grocery store handy? Won't taste quite right either. Can you go to your mom's and just go in and get it ? I've been known to do that. Yeah it freaks her out, but she's the one who gave me a key...
