When bad things happen, you pray to God, correct? Why do you overlook the fact that he's the cause of the bad things? Take the fires in Southern California for example. People are praying to God to stop the fires. But they don't realize that he's the cause. And I don't want any "God will do what is best" crap. What good can leaving 70,000+ people homeless do?

If God controls everything in the world, I'm guessing he's the cause of everything, good or bad. And if it wasn't him, why would he allow it to happen?

It is because Arnie signed a bill into law last Friday that promotes Homosexuality in their Schools. God hates Homosexuality and always judges us for it.

Maybe we as a nation need to wake up and realize that not everything bad that happens needs to be blamed on God. Man has caused more problems then what most of us want to believe. We think that a loving and caring God can't allow any bad or hateful things to happen. Have we ever thought that if we went back to what we were when our country was first founded then maybe things would be different. But the majority of Americans do not want to see the truth that there is a God and that He may be trying to get us as a nation to look up to Him instead of ourselves and blaming Him for what we bring upon ourselves. Even a loving parent can only be so nice before there has to discipline for disobedience. Maybe we should look at the fact that our country's greatness is due to the fact that when America was founded, it was done so on principles that have been dropped by the way side and forgotten because we as Americans have taken so much of what we have for granted. We need to wake up and realize the further we try to blame God and push God out the worse we will become.

Your question does not insult or offend me, but it is open for debate......

If the fires are the work of God, then as a Christian, I can not say He is the "cause". He is the justifier, if something must be justified, from His prespective, people are the cause. There are many disasters in the world, in the US alone, are many. It seems like California has had annual fires for the last several years. New Orleans is having more flooding. It goes on and on.

I will not be so presumptious as to say it is the act of God, but if it is, it could be a punishment, or it could be......

to teach others (self included) about humanity and compassion for others, to unite us in a brotherhood, that is seldom seen outside times of disaster.

This is my personal opinion, I do not pray for God to change His course of action, but rather, to reveal to me how to handle the situation, or make a contribution, whatever it might be. It also serves as a reminder to me, to be thankful everyday for what I have.....for tomorrow, I may not.

God isn't the only one at work in this world. If God controlled everything, we'd all be a bunch of mindless puppets. He gave us free will. Satan is also at play here. Why is it that every time something bad happens, people want to blame God? And before anyone says "but God could stop the fires," look at our world and how we've treated Him....why should he?

How did God start the fires? I pray to God for the good and the bad. The fires were started because of the Santa Ana winds going at 120 mph in some places and knocking down power poles and some were arson.

A long time ago, God gave power & dominion over this planet and animals to Adam & Eve. Through sin, Adam gave it over to satan; Jesus took power & authority back from satan after the cross and returned it to us. God is only in control of the stuff down here when we grant Him access to our lives. Unfortunately, too many people would rather turn away from Him and blame Him for the consequences of their own poor choices or for natural situations that arise from the planet that have a negative impact on their lives. It's easier than accepting responsibility.

You shouldn't blame God for something that man has done. We are on this earth to live our lives according to our free will. I happen to think that most of these fires have been started by arsons with free will. Those who follow God are the ones who are reaching out to help those who have lost their homes. And there are some of those who do not follow God who are also reaching out to those who have lost their homes.

If God didn't give us all free will, we would all be a bunch of robots who wouldn't even know what we were doing. Including you. There is a lot of good being done by people to help those who are victoms of the evil of others. Christian and non Christian. Dont blame God for the evil but thank Him for the good.

well if you're looking for a christian answer then here you have it:

a christian does not believe that god is responcible for the actions of man on earth. god was. but not anymore. this goes back to the whole idea of Adam and Eve and Original Sin. Adam and Eve were under the complete and divine protection of God in every which way. at that point in time God was in control of earth, man, and mans actions. however, when Eve was seduced by the devil into eating the fruit from the forbidden tree man gained knowledge and was no longer blissfully ignorant. gained knowledge is the key point here. knowledge allows for man to control his/her actions on earth.

i think you may be looking for a "yeah christians are dumb!" type response but if you really want to know whats up then thats it. thats why true christians dont blame god for the happenings on earth.

Agency is a more complicated question than you make it. Orthodox Christians must conceed that God allows for such events to take place, but to claim He is the direct cause would require much more discussion. This is an old, old, topic and theologians and philosophers have been writing on it for some 2000 years.

I'm not trying to offend when I say I think your logic is a litte over simplified. I often wonder why people build villages around volcanos and when they erupt they question's God's involvement. Did God force them to build around volcanos and if he didn't wouldn't it be kind of foolish to to take such risks. All of us can do things to increase or decrease our safety. If we don't wear our seat belts why blame God as we sail through the front windshield or even question why he didn't stop us? Personally I've noticed God doesn't kill nearly so many when they buckle up.

We live in a fallen world. Bad things happen. God allows things to happen. Sometimes they are part of judgment, sometimes they are just part of the fall. But God promises to be there for us. Do you ever wonder if maybe He desires us to draw close to Him but we are all too busy to give Him the glory and honor He deserves? We go through trials and we can either take it as a way to be closer to Him or to reject Him.
