I don't know what these people are thinking. Go to your neighbor and tell them what happened. If they can provide you proof of rabies vaccination, then you have nothing to worry about. If you feel you should go to the doctor and/or need stitches, then go but give them the bill. It is their responsibility.
If it's a neighborhood dog and you don't know who it belongs to, then you should see the doctor. You should also call animal control and have it captured.

I haven't got the time at the moment to read all the answers so I don't repeat but I hope you know where this dog lives so you can verify that it has had its rabies shots if not,,,, go to a doc asap and they probably will tell you if you are wise get the shots. I went through stuff like this myself and rabies is a no win problem for humans, shots or deadly outcomes,,,, Best wishes and so sorry unless you know this dog and it has its shots. And if you are told shots they are not all the horror stories I grew up hearing about and I am a little woman. I have just added this most of the people that has answered your question is morons and would email all that allow it that. Lots of luck again, and sorry I didn't use spell check this isn't a school report it's for fun.

first have your parents go to the neighbors house and ask the neighbor if the dog has had all its shots and make them show documentation proving it, also there are leash laws in most states and if the dog was 'at large' which means running around without a leash then your neighbors could be sued by you and your parents. now wash the skin and surrrounding area with warm, soapy water and then rinse and put neosporin or some other topical ointment on the bite..if it isn't deep. the thing is it never hurts to see a doc in something like this as your neighbors were being very irresponsible by letting the dog run like that. what if he bit you in the neck ! i would report the incident to the police to protect yourself and the doctor bills would be your neighbors responsibility and they ought to be happy you aren't going to sue. just somehow you have to make sure the dog does not have rabies and that will either be by the neighbors showing you the dog has had its shots or your doc testing you.

First off, ask the neighbor to show you proof the dog has had a rabies vaccine. If the bite is deep, seek out a Dr. If it is just a surface scratch, clean it well with antibacterial soap, or better yet, betadine, and bandage it. If the dog has NOT been vacinated for rabies, go to a hospital now. Were you on your neighbor's property when it happened? Was the neighbor walking the dog on a leash? If not, they owe you for any Dr. bills you may have.

No matter what anyone else here says you NEED to go to the doctor and have a round of rabies shots. You need to get the address of the house the dog lives at, and call animal control. You may not want it to happen, but the dog needs to be put down. What if it's a baby next time, and they don't walk away from it? It is your responsibility to report this, and it's your neighbors responsibility to pay for your medical bills, because they didn't have their dog properly trained.
Don't get me wrong... I LOVE animals, I own MANY animals, and I LOVE THEM ALL VERY MUCH, but if one of them ever injured another human being for no reason at all, I know that I'd have to be a responsible pet owner and have them put down. And even the thought of having to do that has me about to cry right now.

How badly are you hurt. It doesn't sound like you are really that hurt. If you were bleeding to death you wouldn't be on the computer, right? Make sure you thoroughly clean it just like any wound. Your parents need to get involved in this matter. They need to immediately go to the neighbor's house. You guys need proof that this dog is current on his vaccines. Is this the first time the dog has been loose? Do you think this dog may be a danger to someone else? Next time it could be a little kid. Keep in mind it is not the fault of the dog. The owners are completely at fault for being so irresponsible. You may need to talk to your parents about reporting this to animal control. The reason I say this is because someone could get seriously hurt someday. I wish you luck! Remember to have your parents talk to these people asap!

You should go to your doctor so you can get a tetanus shot and they can look it over, they might give you an antibiotic so it doesn't get infected. I know that where I live if a dog bites you they will get a hold of the owner and ask for the shot records of the dog and if they have had all their shots then they just have the owner keep a good eye on the dog for 10 days but if they are not up to date on their shots the take the dog and carotene the dog for 10 days. I wish you the best

Find out the vaccination history of the dog. Not a bad idea to go to the Doc either. Sounds like your neighbors need to learn how to handle their dog better, he is a danger, think how it could have been if you had been a little toddler.

I would go to the doctor. Dog bites are prone to infection. I also would call animal control about the dog. Next time he bites you it might be worse.

You do not need to go to the doctor. There is less than a .001% chance that the dog could pass anything on to you. Dog bites are usually cleaner and do not get infected most of the time. A simple bite is nothing to worry about. If you have a deep cut and need stitches, the neighbors can pay for it.
If you go to the doctor, the doctor will have to report that you were bit by a dog- depending on what your parents do, they could force to have the dog euthanized for being a danger to the neighborhood.
I would definately tell your neighbors what happened so they are aware of it- if their dog is extremely aggressive, I would report it to the authorities. If they have a mean dog that attacks people, your neighbors shouldn't have any pets, and the dog should be rehomed.
