Sounds like you're already set for survival with a 10/22 Ruger and 20 gauge. The Ruger .357 Mag. w/9mm extra cylinder is a good addition. Any 12 gauge is also a good addition as would be a .308 to .30-06 rifle. I'd opt for a quality bolt-action (Remington 700 comes to mind) with a good straight four power or even better, a good 3x9 scope. The .308 is a good choice due to the availability of the ammo.

For home defense the .45 or .380 is a good addition but I'd forget about loading solids in either (for home defense) unless you live alone. Even hollow point ammo will go through a lot of dry wall and you have to be concerned about accidentally shooting someone sleeping in the next bedroom. Consider Glazier type pre-fragmented ammo for home defense.

Last but not least, don't forget to add at least one good knife to your survival arsenal.

Best.

Well as a fellow "gun nut" I also subscribe to the notion that a person can never have "too many" guns. But your question was about what is best in a survival situation. I don't know if you mean "go live in the woods in a cabin and fight off the non-survivalists" kind of survival or if you are talking about actual survival in the wilds as you might have to do if you became lost or were in a plane crash. If it is "lost in the woods" kind of survival, my pick for a survival gun would be a .22 rimfire. The ammo is light weight and is sufficient for killing small game to survive on. There are a couple of survival guns on the market that are take downs. The barrel comes off and can be stored in the stock. It's compact and light. For self protection, my choice is a 1911 style .45 ACP. Plenty of knock down power and it lays nice and flat against your side where it is easily concealed. For urban survival, my chioce is a 12 ga. shotgun with a short barrel. Not too short so it is still legal. Load it with buckshot and you're good to go.

I think that the .22 caliber weapon would probably be the best for wilderness survival. Taking down big game with such a small caliber is dubious but you can carry a heck of a lot more .22 ammo than you could say 30-30 ammo. You can live off of smaller animals. A good .45 or .357 (i own one of each Ruger and S&W respectively) for a side arm would never be a bad idea either. As far as Urban Warfare, i would say .223 is one of the deadliest rounds out there.

For survival, the Barret would be a little to impractical because it would limit your mobility.

If it was me, I'd get a S&W Model 500 for bear, a good 12 gauge with a rifled barrel for slugs, shorter barrel for self-defense, and a regualr barrel with several chokes. A good semi-auto pistol, nothing under 9 Lugar, but I'd rather trust the .45 (a 1911, XD45, Glock-even though I dispise them, M&P), A Springfield Socom II. .30-06 big enough for an elk and can get plenty of ammo. A .30-30 tried and true design, plenty of replacement parts if problems (Same as a 1911)

I would say none of thee above get something like a 30-06 because they are just flat out useful in the North American region so sell the guns you got you yourself sound like a Rambo. get a 30-06 bolt action and maybe keep that .357 ditch the rest and keep the Barret for fun. I my self live in wood lands USA and all you got would stress you out the first 5 miles in if you walk in and you back goes out due to the ammo from everything else. also 30-06 ammo is easy to find. and you get universal grain age to the ammo so drop the one man army act and try to use something that you can survive with. and for survival wise use actually SURVIVOR books. As for Urban survival I would say a combo of the SAIGA-410 sawn off and a H&K MP7 9mm and a crosbow . Those would be mine for urban combat and make sure in any situation have a knife , they do not run out of ammo

You asked for a survival situation "Lost in the woods"
Buy a good .22 LR. Then pack it up with about $5.00 worth of ammo (That's 250 rounds more or less) and you can stay lost and fed for a very long time.
For the "Red Dawn" situation, you need one of what the bad 'uns are carrying. It makes ammo resupply easier. Maybe you can find an old "Liberator" or a CIA "Deer Gun" to get your first. Barring that, buy a good FN-FAL "The right arm of freedom" and as much ammo as you can hoard. Have a nice life Gummer.

I think the best all around weapons to have for both wilderness and urban survival would be an AR10 carbine and a .22 pistol.

Wilderness-

Some have suggested that a .223 is ideal. IMO .223 is just too light of a caliber for big game and too big for small game. The only advantage it offers over .308 is lighter weapon and lighter ammunition. However once you became accostumed to the weight of the heavier weapon it shouldn't have much of an impact on your day to day activities. The larger weapon gives you the ability to harvest game that can sustain you longer then multiple small game. So any additional ammunition you can pack with .223 is offset by requiring you to harvest more animals.
As for only picking a .22. rifle. Yes you could live on small game, but it's much easier to process large game for storage if you are in a static site. Additionaly you can trap small game with snares for day to day food and save large caliber ammunition for refilling your larder. A .22 pistol will give you the ability to harvest small game while on the move and it's more compact then a rifle.
A shotgun is another option, but I prefer to have the ability to reach game at 200-300m. Shotguns are great for in close but you may need range some time. The .22 pistol would give you in-close ability for both small game and waterfowl, it just takes some practice to ensure you can hit your targets.

Urban survival-

Again I will take a .308 AR10 style carbine. Knockdown, range, military ammunition and it's still manueverable enough to not encumber. Granted I'm 6' 250 so the 10-12lb weight doesn't bother me like it might a smaller person. Yes, .308 ammunition is a bit bulkier then .223 but you aren't going to be performing seek and destroy patrols. 60 rounds on your person at one time should be more then enough for self defense if you are forced to relocate to a new area. Create a few cache's on your egress routes and you can restock while you shift to new terrain.
If you were trapped on a battleground then you would want to get away from a city as quick as possible anyway. The wilderness provides your best chance for survival and stealth. At this point the .308 would be the weapon of choice for the reasons listed in the first section.
The .22 pistol is quieter if the need to evade or to harvest small game while clearing an occupied area were required. Ammunition is readily available at most any sporting goods store in small towns and byways throughout the country and you can carry alot of rounds with minimum encumberance.

So my weapons of choice would be .308 carbine and .22 pistol. Anything more then that is too awkward to carry, ammunition for both is easy to scavanage and they cover everything from short to long range. No other combination of weapons gives you as many benefits.

I'm not so sure this is a place to brag about what you have.

A survival and personal defense gun is a 12 Gage pump (no particular brand) easy to brake down for cleaning and maintenance. Mossberg 500 has been around since the 1960's cheap and proven with law inforcement and military use.
With the right barrel or chokes (definse -open or unchoked)you can shoot slugs or shot. many deer (2 &4 leged) have been brought down with BBs or Buck shot.
A shotgun is loud enough to be heard for signaling.
A shell can be broken down easy enough for powder for fire starting.
a negative is the shells are large and bulky

For survivalism? A.K.A. lost in the woods? I don't care what anyone else says. A .22 long rifle is the weapon you want. It will kill all small game and larger game can be killed or scared off with well placed shots.

And it is the only weapon that I know off that you can buy 500 rounds for it for under $10 and actually be able to carry them.

Second choice being a quality 12 guage shotgun.

As for urban survival A.K.A. "red dawn"? you'll be best off with one of 3 calibers. NATO 5.56, NATO 7.62x51, or COM BLOC 7.62x39. The first 2 are standard US military calibers and can be resupplied by finding it. And the last is the most widely used caliber in the world.

Good luck finding what you want.

For "Lost in the Woods" situations you might want to check out the Savage 22 caliber survival rifle, extremly lightweight and you can fold over the stock and carry it in a backpack. With the 22 cal you can also carry a couple hundred rounds with no problem.
