I know you need to apply for and get a license to carry a concealed gun in the state of Kansas, but do I need to do anything for having one just for home defense? In this state we have the "Stand your ground" law where you may shoot someone if they intrude your home if you feel your life is threatened. I am going to be moving in a bad neighborhood so I figure time for me to get a gun if needed to defend myself. So do I need to apply for anything or get a license for having a gun just for home defense? Thanks.

In Kansas you can keep the gun in your house or on your property without a license of any sort.

As long as it's in your own home, you don't need a permit.

However, don't be fooled by "stand your ground" laws. There are still a number of restrictions on when you can and cannot shoot, and you can get prosecuted if you don't abide by them. So make sure you research the law thoroughly.

THE SECOND AMENDMENT-THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS, GIVE YOU A FEDERAL RIGHT TO HAVE AN ARM IN YOUR HOUSE.(THIS TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER THE STATE LAW)
KANSAS YOU SAY ALLOWS YOU TO "STAND YOUR GROUND" PROTECT YOUR HOME FROM INTRUSION.(THIS IS ALSO A FEDERAL LAW. (RIGHT TO LIFE LIBERTY AND FREEDOM WITHOUT FEAR OR CONSEQUENCES 14TH)

YOU DO NOT NEED TO APPLY UNLESS YOU CARRY CONCEALED. IN MOST STATES YOU CAN CARRY A WEAPON ON YOUR SIDE(BRANDISHING A WEAPON) AND IT IS NOT CONCEALED. YOU MAY BE ASKED WHY YOU ARE CARRYING A WEAPON BUT CANNOT BE ARRESTED. IT IS IN THE OPEN AND IN PLAIN VIEW AND THUS THE PLAIN VIEW DOCTRINE APPLIES ADVERSE TO CONCEALED.

As long as it is registered, you're good to go without having to worry about a CCW.
