Whats that thing you can buy so someone can stand on the back of the bicycle while you pedal? I know you attach it to the rear wheel area. Where can I buy it online and how much?

NEVER allow someone to ride on the back of a bike, on pegs.

It might seem safe enough, but I want to tell you a story about what happened to the friend one of my customers:

While my customer was shopping for a bike, SHE asked if someone could ride on the pegs. I told her no and also explained to her father that having passengers riding on pegs was dangerous. They made the purchase and left the store.

A few weeks later the father and daughter came back to the store with the bike and her boyfriend. She was on crutches. They wanted the rear wheel replaced and the pegs removed. Seems that her boyfriend was riding with her on the rear and somehow she twisted her foot into the rear wheel. Her foot got caught in the wheel which cut right through the shoe and chopped off her big toe.

The nastiest part of this is that when the boyfriend felt resistance on the pedal (when her foot got stuck) he pushed harder which probably resulted in the toe being amputated. They said it happened in less than a second.

Now, I have her big toe picture hung on every bike with pegs and on every package of pegs with the warning NOT TO USE PEGS FOR CARRYING PASSENGERS.

It's called a trip to the hospital. Pegs are designed for doing tricks and grinding - not for riding on. I have seen a lot of avoidable accidents due to inappropriate riding. It's really not a good idea.

Bike pegs. You can find them at a local bike shop and, sometimes, at a well stocked department store. Here are a few sources online if you are not near a store - http://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Freestyle-Steel-Bike-Pegs/dp/B000H104E4/ref=pd_sbs_sg_1/105-1039643-5014866 or http://sporting-goods.listings.ebay.com/Parts-Accessories_Pegs_W0QQsacatZ106943QQsocmdZListingItemList . Depending on material and design, expect to pay $10-$20.

See first if your MTB is fitted with quick release levers.
If they are then you can not put on a PEG.
